Just a list I was noodling about today. What are the 10 most famous yachts of all time?

I just started a personal preference which incudes (in no particular order):
Jester, Jolie Brise, Suhaili, Teignouth Electron, Galway Blazer, Dulcibella, Club Med (transat theme developing) Kingfisher, lively lady, gypsy moth. I'm sure I could go on.

What would your list be?

Spray, Mischief, Joshua, Pen Duick, Jolie Brise, Suhaili, Dulcibella, Kingfisher, Lively Lady, Gypsy Moth IV.

I saw Gipsy Moth III in Mayflower last week, still lovely - but tiny winches!

Lively Lady, Gypsy Moth, Sulali, Bloodhound, Valsheda, Leopard3, Joli Brise, Alice, Kitty, Black Pearl, I had to include mine as she is my personal best yacht,

America, Meteor, Suhaili, Gupsy Moth IV, Velsheda, BMW Oracle, Dulcibella, Il Mostro, Leopard, Hydroptere.

Spray, Jester, Shrimpy. ( Cruising division)

Anything by messrs Sparkman and Stevens, thats got to be 10 plus plus...

Yes, shoudn't forget Spray at all. Not sure James Caird or Fram are strictly yachts, but very noteworthy. The James Caird in a class of its own then. Zaca? Hydroptere, certainly.

I suppose this is where the arguments start...

;)

Yes, Fram might be stretching things a bit. Willing to trade her for BRIS, built and sailed by Sven Yrvind. Zaca used to be Errol Flynn's little boat. Fore some peculiar reason her story got me into sailing. Apart from Hotspur or the Witch of Endor but they'd count even less.

10 most famous...

Sopranino has been mentioned...without which no JOG and all that followed but at the head of any list Wanderer 3...without which, and her owners, cruising as we know it might not have developed as it has. dr

Gipsy Moth IV, Spray, Endeavor(J), Dulcibella, Jolie Brise, Suhali, Brittania(1893), Shrimpy, Jester, Pen Duick.

Interesting exercise, not sure there can be any definitive conclusion but that's my list.

I happily agree with all of the above, and especially Blueboatman's endorsement of S & S designs - of which Dorade (http://www.sparkmanstephens.com/sparkmanstephens/history1.php ) and Stormy Weather (http://www.stormy.ca/marine/index.html ) are probably the most famous.

Not as famous perhaps as Spray, but equally noteworthy was Slocum's Liberdade - here is some info about her, and a modern day re-construction - http://www.stexboat.com/slocum/liberd1.htm

One could perhaps add Tania Aebi's Contessa 26 Varuna (to complement Chrissie's Black Pearl!).
And Jessica Watson's S & S 34 'Pink Lady' - http://www.jessicawatson.com.au/pink-lady
And so many others!
