Yoou will no doubt improve the safey aspect but reduce your range to somewhat approaching hailing distance due to the inability of the emissions to escape from the shielding. Defeats the purpose of a HF set I suppose
Before applying any protective finish, was the anodised finish on the mast and boom damaged? If it was, then for long term corrective action the aluminium needs to be re-protected using something like Alocrom or Alodine before applying a cosmetic finish over the damaged area.

And where did it ever state that they must be carried sequentially? I did my DS in the 'old fashioned way' and looking back can see no reason why it could not have carried out in an integrated fashion. Indeed aspects of the overall course would probably have been better delivered in this...
