To the OP,
We have a MF895.
There is absolutely no reason why you can’t potter about at 6kts (although the higher speed are addictive 😉).
I am 99% sure the Antares 9 is the same hull (But see post #6).
We are delighted with our 895, but note it slams more than most boats in a head sea.
Great question. As hinted at above, even small islands will have small sea breezes early on (say 1100-1200h), but the local breeze will be overcome by the geographically “larger” sea breeze if there is a nearby mainland coast. Hence the Rottnest Island example. (It would be interesting to see if...
from a fellow idiot,
can you borrow a portable generator? That’s what I did when I was the idiot - for several hours. The batteries seem to have recovered from the (once only) near total discharge. I doubt whether a trickle charge will cut it.
Following this, as I have had conflicting expert advice on whether or not to grease the clutch cones.
The ”average” advice seems to be to use a bit of grease - sparingly??
Depending on the extent of your variation (level on dipstick), it may be normal.
Experience and previous threads here taught me that because there’s air chambers in the (sealed) gearbox, the level will vary Slightly. The amount of air trapped when filling, angle of heal history, and temperature...
pirate,
not sure how big your boat is, but anyway a few points:
There are expensive sail fittings/luff cars that are so low in friction that the sail drops quickly by itself.
This may not be an option for you (or me) but the next best thing is the use of lubricant spray - helps a lot.
Also...
Firstly, I sympathise with your comment that you are asking for experience, not general opinions :)
I installed my system 7 years ago. I also changed from old copper coat to conventional anti foul at the same time - so I can’t give a definitive “before and after” result for ultrasonic. However...
Following this with interest, as I have similar experiences with 2030, and now have a D1-30.
500 hours seems a depressingly short interval to replace an elbow.
I got about 1000 hours - don’t know if running hard helped (almost zero idling).
(not wanting to hijack the thread too much - thinking...
