    Nasa HF3 and weatherfax problems

I've got an HF3 and you should be able to easily pick up the fax sound as in the link that whipper gave. Feed this from the earphone jack into the mike sound input and it works well for me on an old Tosh Win98 and Mscan fax and text program. Usually better reception away from harbours but it...

    Propshaft / cutless bearing clearance.

There is plenty of opportunity for engine movement as the shaft is flexible and will sag under its own weight if not supported and the clearance in the bearing (0.20mm on a 25mm shaft 100mm long bearing) allows for shaft displacement at a rate of 0.2 mm per 100mm shaft length between bearing and...

    Propshaft / cutless bearing clearance.

This is a very complex but interesting subject, here is my perspective on your comments. Rubber does work as a bearing and that is what the industry has become comfortable with, change is often difficult. We generally talk about cutless or cutlass as a bearing for a propeller shaft that is...

    Downwind sailing, What to buy?

My last boat was easily single handed with a fairly large kite using a snuffer and having the pole on a track up the mast. She was 21.15m with a 7/8ths 18m mast so not a small rig. Just take it one step at a time, guy in, pole up, hoist kite, release snuffer, pull guy back, pull up snuffer and...

    Propshaft / cutless bearing clearance.

Sounds like you're familiar with Tufnol! Maritex was developed to overcome some of these aborption issues around 15 years ago, and has lower moisture absorption than other composite bearings, what is also useful is tat the absorption is accurately known and it's not linear, hence the calculator...

    Propshaft / cutless bearing clearance.

Ooops, need to update the website it seems to be running the old calculator which had a bug on thicker bearing walls that said no go...should be up and running in the next 15mins

    Propshaft / cutless bearing clearance.

Thanks Tranoma, Guru or not we do have a machining calculator for our phenolic cutless bearings which will give ID and OD clearances for carrier and shaft. Maritex Aquarius calculator Just enter your figures for carrier ID and shaft OD in mm and it will give clearances. Maritex Aquarius has...

Southampton Boat Show - stand corner needed

You can share space, but you kind of need to visit stands the year before to see how their display area works. I looked into it for my products a few years ago, when it seemed all the available space was taken. Some of the small boat and trailer stands can fit people in and it helps reduce their...

Cutless Bearing is loose in its housing - how do I re-bed it?

Composite cutless bearings are routinely bedded on epoxy with a release agent/wax in GRP tubes and have been for at least the last ten years. Not a great photo but you can see one here on a new build 48.00mm shaft.

Cutless Bearing is loose in its housing - how do I re-bed it?

You can bed on epoxy, but check with the bearing manufacturer, we advise wax release with composite bearings in GRP carriers. You always need to make sure engine and shaft are aligned. What the bedding on epoxy helps with is that it allows you to confirm that the carrier is in alignment with...

Cutless Bearing is loose in its housing - how do I re-bed it?

(you have to put in the shaft and carrier dimensions you are looking at, it's a calculator) shaft 25.40 carrier 38.10 (1"x1.5") You get ID max = 25.66 OD Min = 37.85 (clearance fit bedded on epoxy) We can do the 525.00mm shaft if you like though.

    Protective grease

The same company as ACF 50 does a corrossion block grease seems to work, I've been using it on all sorts of stuff for 3-4 years.

Cutless Bearing is loose in its housing - how do I re-bed it?

Firstly we supply cutless bearings to any size, as they can be machined to a finsihed OD or left for finishing on site. Bearings can and are, frequently fitted as a clearance fit in the carrier bedded on epoxy. We recomend Araldite 2001 also known as precision. The reason is, it is a low...

    Help... rigging a dinghy

Yep one of those but a 1990 vintage, still fast but a bit less sail and narrower than the new ones.
