Leaving shore stern first on dinghy pushing it out waist deep in a hefty breaking swell and got completely swamped by a wave and 2 seconds later boom all in front of a packed beach during a regatta ! very uncool ! but was very pleased at least the LJ worked !
Whatever your final choice it is how you equip and set out your vessel that makes it suitable for single handed sailing. As kids grew up I ended up doing more and more sailing single handed. I have furling main which makes life very easy - (its a marmite thing) and a range of varying opinions...
Best to make your own personal choices, much of the fitting will depend on what clothing you intend to wear, thickness of collar and hoods and the layers you wear beneath so if you try some wear foul weather gear or whatever you would normally wear afloat .
