Should I base in Bristol Channel?

Newport is cheap as chips, plenty of moorings available, but if you want pastoral scenery, you’ll find it lacking.

Should I base in Bristol Channel?

….. but it can be a PITA getting through Newport, PortTalbot, North Swansea and St Clears on a sunny weekend. (Sadly)

Do you miss the London Boat Show

Colour looks the same, as does the name. I’ll take a photo when I’m next down the club. Perhaps my clubmate was chissled by a nautical version of Del Boy.

Do you miss the London Boat Show

Superdocious is lingering under a green canvas cover at our club now!

Can anyone hazard a guess of the make?

Yes, it says Navman, but looking online the masthead unit is completely different. The previous owner might have mixed and matched - if that is remotely possible.

Can anyone hazard a guess of the make?

The cups and shaft of the masthead wind instrument have gone on vacation. There is no manufacturer’s name on the unit for me to get spares. Does anyone recognise it? Many thanks in anticipation.

Moving new-to-me boat from Neyland to Portishead - advice wanted.

Don’t think he’ll be going anywhere today in a stiff north easterly at 3C max and -3C overnight. I certainly wouldn’t.

    LCD display problem

Many thanks for the suggestions. It looks as if its a connection problem then, battery fully charged with engine running when the pic was taken. The unit is about 20 years old so I’ll have a stab at disassembly and cleaning in the close season, otherwise, get a new ‘un. Will check voltage at the...

    Help save Watchet Harbour P L E A S E

I’m quite happy using Watchet the way it is. My fin keeler is happy to sit to its waterline in nice soft mud, as indeed it does on its home mooring. I guess large mobies tend not to like sitting in mud, intakes blocking and blue underwater lights not visible?

    Help save Watchet Harbour P L E A S E

Unfortunately yes. Bristol Channel water has been described as being akin to Turkish coffee. When not being stirred, there’s a lot of solids that sink to the bottom.

    Recommendations (from Watchet)

You’ll be ok against the wall in Ilfracombe, especially if you like chips. Avoid anchoring off in The Range, its ‘orrible in the winds you’re likely to be having early next week.

    Grand tour

Surprised that Coppercoat doesn't like Barry mud. Three seasons in Newport mud and all is well with my Coppercoat. Perhaps we're more brackish.

    Fluttering sails

70 million quid for a glorified marquee? I wonder what committee of the great and good sanctioned that?
