40 or 80 grit for grinding back keel

Thanks neilf39 I’m going with both grit flapper discs. It’s cosmetic really and not a full scrape back.

40 or 80 grit for grinding back keel

Hauled the boat yesterday - cast keel and found that the bulb and it’s wings have taken a bit of a bashing over the last year with dinks and nicks out along both wings and rusting pushing through in areas of damage. This year I’ll need to take a bit more of a robust approach and will be...

    Best 3.5hp outboard?

It wasn’t your outboard engineer that offered to buy your Honda off you was it? He would have secured a good deal if it was! Only I had a similar situation a few years ago where I put my old Malta in for a service with an outfit that I don’t usually use. Anyway, didn’t hear from them and as I...

    Inexperienced crew, yes or no?

As skipper you have all the responsibility here and realistically it appears that you are the only one with any experience. If it were me I would take another experienced sailor with me, who can share the seamanship and running of the boat aspect, someone who can stand a watch and has knowledge...

Just wish I hadn’t touched the bow thruster anode!

Yes, eventually, but sourcing a replacement oil plug bolt in this country proved to be impossible and importing from the USA - the only source I could find via internet would have been excessively expensive and would have taken weeks to arrive and too late around my relaunch date and storage...

Bene 473 keel / hull design

Ashore, its stood on its keel and supported by the cradle arms, not suspended. When ashore for the winter the yard will stand it the cradle stepped on a length of wood on its keel. I dry mine out regularly against scrubbing posts and all good, just have to crouch down more under her. No problem.

    Alicante region marinas

Club Nautico manage Los Nietos Marina on the Mar Menor an hour and half from Alicante airport and half hour from San Javier airport. Yes, they do appreciate any attempt at Spanish being used, but would smile broadly and then put you out of your misery and speak English!

    I hate my B&G Network

I used this replacement B&G 213 PCB in my MHU H100 B&G and it’s compatible and rectified similar issues I had - wind direction inconsistent and occasional no wind speed. This four years ago and still all good. Worth it to keep the old network going until I can afford new whenever that might be!

Seeking Recommendations: RYA Coastal Skipper Practical Course in UK or Warm Climates

Ahh yes know the outfit you allude to. 😐 …….and would you be willing to provide the cost of the CS course with them, for comparative purposes of course?

    Time to Move

Oh well, each to their own. Muddy Medway, Muddy Blackwater, Muddy East Coast. All I’m saying is that everywhere has its good and it’s not so good! It’s the getting out on the water - by whatever means, in what ever craft and wherever it is and enjoying life.

    Time to Move

‘Well, who on earth would want to go to the Medway etc’ This is a little unfair and opinionated! Many of us sail on the Medway and throughout the Thames Estuary North with all the delights of the East Coast proper and South and there are many challenges for the everyday cruiser sailor. The...

    Time to Move

They’ve stuck me on Sidmouth a short finger, temporarily I’m told. Apparently I’m now on a further list waiting on a longer finger. But it had been such a palava that I thought let’s just take anything!

    Time to Move

I’m about to relocate to Ramsgate and yes there is a waiting list. I had been waiting since February. It seems that there is a general shortage of the longer berths becoming available, but less of a problem to accommodate smaller boats. Anything over 35 feet and it’s a struggle - at 36 feet I...
