No thank you to another thread! lol... The lithium mention is for a future a project in the next few years! The question for this thread was just about if the switch was required... Could I use a solution without a switch... would I be missing out on a important feature... and that has been...
Thank you all for your feedback. My question has been most definitely answered. Apologies, if I was not completely clear at the start as I did miss out a few bits. 1. My switch is very old and if I kept it would either need replacing or serviced. 2. The next future upgrade would be replacing the...
How do you mean it's not battery to battery?... I think what i'm trying to achieve is keep the engine side as much independent as possible so that if the house side (with all the electronics) goes to crap... the engine will still work!
I have found the purpose of "1 both 2" switches interesting. Over the years, I have spoken to people with different understandings of what they do! Even putting doubt on my own switch! I guess this maybe be an underlaying reason for me to remove it! I did a rough draft for my future electrics...
Yep... already gone down led route etc... I can just about get away with the one lead acid battery (I don't want to go down the lithium route). The idea I had about getting the Victron Dc to dc charger was the hope that it would get the best performance out of the house battery. The 1-2-B switch...
Reading up on the Victron Orion-tr smart, they say it will manage the charging of the house battery better... stop it from being over charged. Also, the app will give me an indication of any potential issues going on with the alternator
Thanks for your feedback Paul, Separate switches sounds like a good idea... Another reason for binning the 1-2-B is that it is very old! and worries me!
Yep, the B2B is an expensive solution. But I do like playing with the Victron app when I don't have the internet to entertain me! lol
I'm starting to think about upgrading my electrical system on a small boat.
I currently have 1 starter battery and 1 house battery
My power sources are 1. Shore power, 2. Solar power and 3. Alternator.
My shore power charger has 2 outputs (starter and house batteries).
My solar is a mppt that...
Thank you to everyone that replied to my thread (including the entertaining thread drift! ) :)
Your responses have given me something to think about and I can see some compromises will need to be made!
Cheers, Paul.
I'm in Oxfordshire! The east coast area commute is definitely doable with lots of Dylan Winters type sailing... but... the MUD! and drying out areas might take a bit of getting used to
