Kiwi propellers - your (objective) comments please

I fitted one and have no regrets at all, it was the only way to stop the cavitation I used to get with a two blade fixed prop. The Cutlass bearing is also lasting longer. Must keep it lubricated and make sure the blades are free to rotate otherwise reverse can be a problem with the smaller...

    Epoxy/gelcoat removal

Dont use a sand blastif it has been epoxied you are liable to end up with very deep holes when it breaks through the hard epoxy layer into the softer gel coat. Heat stripping is ok with care. Chris

    WAAS / EGNOS

I think the question was did the GPS he was buying work with egnos and/or waas I think the answer may be that the garmin may only work with WAAS which isn't very good around the UK because it only works in the US. My Garmin 276c only works with WAAS.

    engine mountings

Hi, I have replaced acouple of these type engines with pattern mounts and to be honest the result was not good. Non of these mounts were flexible enough to take the vibration at tickover or low revs and the result although acceptable was far from perfect and I dont think they will last as long...

    portsmouth

Re: Semantics - bureaucrat speak The main problem in Pompey is the speed of the motor boats not the big fellers the private 30' + types and some Sailing boats, mainly out of Port Solent. Passing very close to trots of moorings, with no thought to what thier wash is doing. In the past couple of...

    engine mounts

There are cheaper mounts available but from experience the cheaper mounts are a poor substitute. The problem is that there is not enough flexibility and the vibration will go through the structure of the boat . Same problem with the Yamaha engines. At £60.00 each trhey seem quite resonable as...

GPS receiver for XM DSC radio

I use a hand held with the nema data wire connected, also to the radar and auto pilot. This also provides 12 volt power to save the batteries. I stick it back in my sailing bag when I go home so I can then programme the next sail. <hr width=100% size=1>www.chertseymeadsmarine.co.uk

    Fully Battened M'sails

Re: Fully Battened M\'sails Went through all the arguments and ended up going for a standard main in the end. Fully battened main considerably heavier, more prone to problems re batten cars, a lot more expensive and very little gain if any with a small mainsail. Ended up buying on line with...

    Boat rage

I will join in, Over the last couple of seasons I have found that there is very little consideration from boaters mainly Power boats but not all when passing moored boats. Based in portsmouth on the swinging bouys it is amazing how close boats will pass at speed even if you are unloading from a...
