    5% VAT on Marina Invoices

Having received such invoices, for boatyard work done during the VAT relief period for hospitality (the change from standard rate VAT benefitting the Marina) I wonder if others have received such invoices as well....or whether the standard rate of 20% applied....

    Sigma 38 fuel tank repair/replacement

Just noticed two further helpful replies, thanks Quandry and David. It is indeed Ghillie, and Quandry I think you know of the boat as well. In the excitement following the failure of the lift pump at the end of the 2017 season (in no wind), I omitted to treat the fuel for diesel bug before the...

    Sigma 38 fuel tank repair/replacement

Thank you all for your interesting and helpful replies. Good advice re re-welding, cleaning out swarf, the use of a reciprocating saw instead of a jig saw, for cutting up the tank and the success of cleaning and resealing internally. I could take from the fact that there were no replies from...

    Sigma 38 fuel tank repair/replacement

I strongly suspect that the steel fuel tank leaks; have found brown liquid in the bilge and 3 litres of clear red diesel next to the fuel tank. (I am hopeful, but not very, that it might have come from another source, eg filler pipe, return flow, heater feed etc and need to check this)...

What would cause a deisel to lose power under load, but run fine in neutral

Apparently a faulty diaphragm, did not actually see it (In retrospect it did take ages to prime using the lift pump).....Beta say they are only good to lift fuel 0.25m. Have now installed an in line fuel bulb pump between tank and primary filter (as helpfully noted elsewhere on this forum)...

What would cause a deisel to lose power under load, but run fine in neutral

We had similar symptoms.. Thought it was air getting in. Checked everything. Turned out to be the lift pump. Good luck.

Defending stem of boat from new generation pointy anchor

Thanks all for your replies. Plan A will be to try to fabricate some sort of temporary protection.....I'll post a photo if I am successful...plan B to try to extend the roller a la the replies above..... Roger

Defending stem of boat from new generation pointy anchor

Thanks, you didn't point out that I would also save £10.05 if I bought one! I fear I need something a bit more extensive.

Defending stem of boat from new generation pointy anchor

Having just replaced the CQR with a new generation super anchor, the problem of how to launch/retrieve it over the existing bow roller without putting holes in the gel coat arises. (the pointy bit is lower). The anchor would store in the anchor well during passages. The boat's stem slopes at...

    RTI action shot

One for the album.....brilliant. Do you know what type of boat it was? Sigma 38?

    Westerly v AWB.........

Typhoon I would vouch for one. We chartered one in Scotland, sailed very well, similar to a Sigma 38. We had the version with two aft cabins. When we came to buy a boat, we looked at a Typhoon in Holland, but the gel coat was crazed and it was the single aft cabin version, which in my view...

    Old subject, new approach.

slave charger I rewired so that the alternator charges the house batteries directly & a Xantrex slave charger (much cheaper I recall than a sterling B to B) charges the starter from the house when the house batteries are being charged. A Smartguage sensing the house and starter batteries...

Back to the Clyde, Crinan and the West Coast

Smiter Going through the canal earlier this year outward bound we passed Smiter going the other way (it only just fits into the locks), and took great delight in dipping our ensign (a little late on purpose) and even greater delight to watch a rating scurrying down from the bridge to dip theirs...

    New batteries

I have the alternator charging the main bank (wet cells) directly, which in turn charges the start battery (olympus) through a Xantrex slave charger. I retained the 1,2 off switch (well, bought a new Bluesea one) which is not needed to operate the engine, (I have a isloator switch at the start...
