Would stainless screws be best to fit an anodised aluminium rubbing strip to a teak cap rail? I’m thinking what is best to avoid an adverse metallurgic (is that a word?) reaction between dissimilar metals leading to unsightly corrosion. Should I use Duralac? TIA.
Does it really matter whether it’s a restoration or new boat? Is it not only a romanticism that this bit of timber was sailing in 1930 or some other such thought? Adopting modern technology in a sympathetic manner seems the only logical thing to do surely? Why would anyone put inferior old tec...
We did Falmouth to Troon in one passage. Lizard, Lands End and the North Channel are the big tidal gates. Off the Mull of Galloway an adverse tide is really not good, don’t ask how I know that……
This is a long shot - does anyone on here have a Flexofold propellor puller tool that I could borrow or buy? I can get one shipped from Denmark but that'll take time, if there was one in the UK that would be extremely handy.
Have a look at transport from SW France to La Rochelle. Considerably shorter I’d think. The passage from La Rochelle to home is very easy and very pleasant. You can of course do that same journey cross land bit via canal but I’ve no idea if your boat would fit.
It's been a mystery where "Pete no feet" went. He seemed to just vapourise one day which leads one to think that perhaps there was a fall out. Leo suggested at the time that we'd see him in future episodes as he was working at Port Townsend but that doesn't seem to have materialised. I'd be...
That's a very good point and, as an aside, I would add that I often use the ratchet if the wind is up to be doubly sure that the main can't unfurl by the furling line slipping in the toothed winch block. Many years ago I was advised by Allspars that having a non-functioning ratchet was a safety...
Is that the case with 10mm chain? I thought the DIN and ISO 10mm chain looks very similar indeed, it is only when they are mismatched gypsy/chain that the difference is obvious. Yes I agree that it’s easy to visually differentiate 8, 10 and 12mm chain.
Another cause can be a DIN/ISO size mismatch between chain and gypsy. Unlikely if the kit is all original but if chain or gypsy has been changed there might be a mismatch.
