Recommendations for winter liveaboard locations in Spainsh rias

I sailed down that way 2008 but did not over winter, We stayed in Povoa de Varzim for a few days which is not far past the Rias so dont know much about the place but talking around I got the impression quite a few people over wintered there. They certainly had some good offers on at the time.

    Overwinter Malta?

We had no problem with swell in Grand Harbour (Camper Nicholson marina) but we were fairly well tucked away as we are only 9.7m. We were there 2010 and had great weather. 24 degress on Christmas day! Maybe the swell is bad in Msida marina?

    Overwinter Malta?

We stayed in Grand Harbour, Malta in 2010 over winter and really enjoyed it. Lots of history, friendly people, easy flights home and fairly cheap. Also met a few fellow liveaboards, crews on mega yachts etc and had a fairly good time. Was sad to leave. We also visited Ragusa in 2010 but...

Starting the liveaboard life - some advice?

I did a fastrak course back in 2007 in Gibraltar (great school and nice weather in january-March but not very tidal but you get a tidal certificate!). Previous experience included a comp crew/day skipper prictical and theory, a couple of flotillas and the odd weekend on a friends boat. After...

    Dubrovnick marina

Thanks everyone for the input. Sounds like its not worth ordering provisions from Sunsail first. I actually did the same bareboat 10 years ago but couldn't remember how the shopping was but do remember some very windy days! We have two weeks so hope to get to Split/Trogir and then looking for...

    Dubrovnick marina

Hi, Heading to Dubrovnick marina for a couple of weeks bareboat sailing, just wondered if anyone knew what it was like for provisioning for beer/wine/water etc? Hoping to be a proper liveaboard again by end of year after a couple of years off but this will have to do for now! Thanks, Rob

    Overwintering in Malta:weather & language?

We stayed in Grand Harbour 2009/2010 and really liked it. There were a few liveaboards around and also crew from big boats so found it pretty sociable. Also found it easy to make friends with locals who were all great. I think we paid 1800 euros for six months (9.7m). I think it is hard to...

    Best small pressure cooker ?

We have a Kuhn Rikon 3.5L which are excellent but expensive. Totally quite in use and easy to take apart and clean and parts available.

Wintering on the Costa del Sol

Almerimar the cheapest. Maybe Cartagena if you prefer something more Spanish and seems to attract a fair few liveaboard over winter also.

    Cagliari to Sicily

We sailed from Cagliari to Sicily in July 2009. Our first stop was Sciacca on the south coast of Sicily. We stayed at Lega Navale (inner most pontoon) which was around 20 euros a night for 9.7m. Very friendly marina. We spent a few days there and its a nice town and well worth the hike up...

    Marina Ragusa Scilly

Winter rates are much cheaper. I was stuck there in April/May last year for several weeks and was paying around 450 month for 9.7m. It goes up higher in summer season although still relatively cheap compared to much of Sicily/Italy! I think our winter price was around 900 but did not stay...

    Marina Ragusa Scilly

I was there during several very windy days but little swell got into the marina. Not there during a full storm but would imagine it is OK.

    Marina Ragusa Scilly

I spent a few weeks there last year and also thougt about overwintering the previous year. As a safe place to leave the boat it would be fine but it is very dead in the winter as most restaurants/shops close up. There is a good supermarket about a mile away though that is year round. There...

    Malta

Reservations are possible at Grand Harbour but they were pretty full last winter. We found them very helpful.

    Malta

From Grand Harbour Marina you can walk a mile or so to the Chain store. This is a reasonable size supermarket but looks small as it is on 3 floors. They will also give you a free lift back to the marina. The local small shops are great for vegetables and there is a wonderful wood fired bakery.
