This May Be of Interest To Visitors to Spain.

This is eactly what it is about as others have testified in this thread. It's a safety net for penniless undesirables entering the country.

Not a scare story at all. 'May be required to produce evidence of self-support when entering the country' is not exactly rocket science. If here for 5 days and have about 1100 quid in the bank and a return ticket bob's yer uncle. If you appear at customs with yer arse hanging out yer trousers...

Volvo Penta 4.3 GXi Water In Engine/Oil.

A sad update. Unfortunately the seawater has been sat inside too long to even attempt turning over after having a gander down the plug holes, valve springs rusted to hell and back, so yesterday, with the engine out and on a stand I started stripping it down. :ambivalence: Currently building a...

2002 Diesel Mercruiser 4.2L 220 AC Exhaust Riser / Elbow

I am far from being au fait with the technicalities and knowledge shown by you chaps on here but having had to get up to speed very quickly and going by recent experience on my 2007 V. Penta 4.3 petrol engine, I can only say if the riser stub is badly corroded and has no maintenance history, get...

Thanks for all the help/tips/advice. Engine coming out tomorrow for an examination and revamp and/or refit.

Thanks GrahamGHR and yourself. I was imagining 'dry stacking' was to do with engine management as with Neutrasalt in the previous context. I am of course familiar with dry stacking as in boat storage. :encouragement:

What are these Neutra Salt System and Dry Stack systems you talk of please? This is my first petrol engine/raw water cooled/closed freshwater experience.

Thanks for the heads up. I did say I wasn't the mechanical genius on this job.

They should be re-newed every 5/6 years. From the amount of corrosion inside, as said before, the metal was so thin at the gasket faces, it would have had to be skimmed about 1/2 inch off to obtain enough surface to re-gasket and even then my mechanic doubted if it would seal properly, hence...

Water ingressing through the failed sea water intakes which were corroded to hell. Iron so thin at the gasket faces that it was impossible to skim. Intakes replaced. Good tip re the marine services.

I did read that parafin was a good release agent but deisel is probably about the same. Trying to do it through spark plug holes before lifting the head. As above posts, we are trying to get the engine to turn by hand first. Will know tomorrow

Thanks, this is exactly the direction in which my mechanic has been going, hence asking about sludge removal. Will search the manual and also physically search for any bung plug but so far only found a drain plug on the lower left side of the sump. Current problem is getting the cylinders...

Volvo Penta 4.3 GXi Water In Engine/Oil.

Hi and thanks. One thing I omitted to mention is I am in southern Spain so parts down here are quite expensive. I think your post answers several previous questions raised. Indeed the cast iron raw water inlet is at fault as I described. Disintegrated from the inside and allowed water to...

Volvo Penta 4.3 GXi Water In Engine/Oil.

This has probably been asked before at some point but the myriad of Volvo Penta engine threads is mind boggling. Previous owner said he had regular maintenance done but after owning this boat for a year and a half I am finding to my cost that he didn't and it's turning into an expensive Jonah...
