Prep before trying to start a 2 stroke outboard that hasn't run for years.

Well I have had a bit of a struggle with a siezed teleflex, which took a long time to get freed off, then I wasn't seeing any water at the tell tail when I put the muffs on, so decided to check the water pump. Needless to say the gearcase wouldn't budge. Eventually with some very careful...

    Seized tele flex.

Result! After several hours, heating - cooling and applying my patent device for hammering in confined spaces it freed up. Once it moved a couple of mm, I could start rotating it and then it just freed off. Moves like butter now! This is what it looked like when it started moving and I could...

    Seized tele flex.

Yes thats what I feared! I wasn't 100% sure because the red part is moving and the blue part isn't! It's obviously just losened where it's crimped. So the main tube is totally seized. I've seen that video but in my case you can't twist the tube. It's solid. Vice grips or similar on it just...

    Seized tele flex.

Hi Rappey, The outboard turns fine with the linkage disconnected. The part circled rotates a few degrees. This is attached to the cable right? The tube, marked in blue, is supposed to move with the bit above, or not? The tube is totally solid. Initially I thought its supposed to be fixed...

    Seized tele flex.

Excuse my lack of knowledge here, but not 100% sure what you mean there. The tele flex can be undone at the 'other' side of the outboard and the cable seems fairly free between the steering wheel and outboard. When you say undo the link to outboard, you mean where the outer sheath attaches...

    Seized tele flex.

Any tricks to freeing up a seized tele flax? The ram is close to fully out and its seized where it goes into the outboard pivot point. There is very little clearance on the end to hammer it in, maybe 4 inches. No easy way to rotate it either. I am guessing brute force is the only way...

Prep before trying to start a 2 stroke outboard that hasn't run for years.

Well she fired up today! Smokey as hell but then there is a lot of oil going in - pre mixed petrol and what ever the VRO is putting in. Pretty amazing really. I think the water impellor is toast. With muffs on, no water is coming out the tell tail or exhaust so I only ran her for a few...

This years mooring fees. Anyone getting any leniency?

Well the EA have had a slight change of heart. As I have sold my boat, I am only paying for the months of lockdown. A lot better than the full whack.

Tell me about it! I was on E28. The EA has that dumb mentalty that if less people take moorings (there are more and more empty every year) they need to put the prices up... In EA's mind one boat paying £2000 a year is a better deal than 20 boats paying £250 a year.

Thanks everyone. Its a VRO engine that mixes its own oil, so I will plumb in a can of premix petrol to see if it runs. It's not ceased and the motor looks great now I've looked under the cover. No idea what's in the main fuel tank... probably a lot of condensation. cups/muffs are due tomorrow...

Just wondering if anyone else is suffering this problem? Environment Agency is demanding payment for the 2020/2021 licence fee (and they've increased it this year too), which was due April. Obviously anyone trying to sell their boat and get it off the mooring before April couldn't and even now...

Anything other making sure its not siezed, I should do to a 140hp Evinrude 2 stroke, that hasn't been run for years? (Dry stored), before trying to run it? Cheers!

Cleaning GRP (without power and poluting chemicals)

Yes I used the sponge that came with it and while it goes get the marks off, it wasn't really much easier than just scrubbing with an worn scouring pad sponge. This is what I'm dealing with. This is what happens after a first go over with vistal. You can see that the stuff has started to go...

Just had a look at Magic Sponges/Erasers on Amazon. There are 50 million sellers of these under all different names. Many with 80% 5* reviews and 20% 1* ! (like lots of stuff on amazon these days) Flash must be the genuine ones???
