Many thanks to all...good debate... reckon I shall buy in the states bring back to the Azores and use as a base and decide on to pay the VAT,install SSB etc....then begin my circumnavigation via Canary Isl.,Cape Verde, Caribbean,Panama etc...hey ho....before anyone asks I am ex merchant Navy...

With boats/yacht be very cheap in the USA,is it possible to bring back to UK ignore VAT and RCD cos intend going on a circumnavigation for a few years....the question can I register in the uk(without paying vat and ignoring RCD)so can have uk radio on board....I have a LRL and full Ham...

I have seen a boat I like.....problem....its on Lake Superior USA......how or what is the best way to bring home to the UK ?????? sail/motor thru the lakes St Lawrence seaway etc or low loader from say Cleveland to Baltimore say...how much cost to low load a 12 ton boat 300 miles??????all...

I know this is old hat......but,is it best to have 2 HF radio ie one for ham and one the marine bands to be within and above the regs ..........heyho

Now if say (I am 60 years old)I decide to tramp the trade winds circumnation and be away from home say for about 5 years..while the trouble and strife is at home..question..will I be able to claim income tax back from a private pension????? regards to all
