    GGR 22

A long meandering thread. Ignore if you are busy! Yours is a valid point when talking about inexperienced amateurs trying to race tune their old boats on a shoestring budget. But Tapio is an experienced, expert sailor with the resources to obtain the best engineering solutions , so it is a...

I am guessing that you are an undergraduate student who goes a couple of hundred days without eating fresh vegetables, has a limited and disrupted sleep pattern and an irregular shower routine. ?

Apparently |Kirsten was uncontacable by Sat phoibe and Abilash - 200NM mniles away - was on his way. But, one would think that there will be plenty of commercial shipping which can get to him much quicker. (His position is near the route betweern Cape Town and Cochin and far East ports)

Weather conditions in his vicinity seemed relatively benign which suggests that he might have hit something. Hopefully the conditions and the proximity of shipping sees him safe. A pity that he is out. His boat seemed very thoughtfuly set up for the Southern ocean.

Thanks for the link. Intriguing viewing. Abilash certainly seems to be in a bad psychological state. He, possibly, has a valid point about the race organisers mandating weather fax as the only permitted weather info source without checking to find that that shore stations in half the world no...

Do you have a link to the interview that you could share? (I can't find it on the GGR web site.) Thanks.

I have to say that the GGR media coverage is an absolute shit-show. Don is vastly experienced, undoubtedly hugely knowledgable aand I am sure that he would be wonderful company - but his skills as a journalist are pretty non-existent. Today's Q & A session started with the host, Don, half...

Simon Curwen seems to be sailing a fine race, despite his halyard issue. His latest weekly voicecall is on Soundcloud, here.

££££££s It costs a good few years worth of antifouiling to coppercoat the hull. Also, possibly, racers don't want the additional weight! Also, people report variable results. Interestingly, in the GGR, Tapio has found that he only has barnacles on the transom - not anaywhere else. I think he...

    Great white Sharks

The Ionian is so overfished that there won't be many great whites. Interestingly, great whites have been observed traversing the Corinth canal! My friend met a local fisherman in the gulf of Corinth who had photographs of one that he had caught - in a little Greek fishing caique! Great whites...

Orcas have been in the Med sice time immemorial. They are mentioned by Pliny 2000 years ago.

The sharks stay away because of the midgies.

Tapio has reported barnacles, as well, in his latest tweet. It would be interesting to find out which brand of antifoul the various yachts used! Also, whether any/all the yachts lifted and antifouled immediately prior to the race. Abilash's boat was certainly out of the water as it needed...
