"Radiator" pressure cap for Yamar 4JH4E

Yanmar's dipstick is, as Vic says, soft rubbish and tends to keep breaking. Cariblue Marine do very nice alloy replacements with the proper vent hole etc. Having extracted the remains of my (inherited) gearbox dipstick I used one of these and am pleased with it - also very nice to deal with.

What to do if somebody has squatted on your mooring ?

Don't forget that, where the loss are liquidated damages i.e. the amount is already determined such as the price of the diesel supplied or the value of services supplied pursuant to a quote etc. , then you can use the Statutory Demand procedure, which costs nothing other than a postage stamp. If...

Advice on Belgium and Netherlands Cruise.

Ostend is the easiest to enter regarding passports. As DB says, it is on the extreme left of the railway building (their telephone number is on a notice on the door) and they are great to deal with. If you are in the RNSYC basin or Mercator, it is minutes away. If you are in the Royal Yacht Club...

    Our first year with lithium

I discussed this with my insurers (Admiral) a week or so ago. They are OK as long as A) it is professionally installed (or presumably signed off by a professional) and B) the BMS and other settings are appropriate for a lithium installation. I expect they would want to see written evidence of...

    Small ss job

Yes they are. They extended the cheeks on the bow roller on my previous boat and, as I approached the boat, I almost thought they hadn't done it as the weld was almost impossible to discern. First class work though perhaps a little pricey (I didnt shop around) but you gets what you pay for and I...

    UK Ship Registry Super Service

Agree with everything said by the OP. Quite incredulous that I was getting sensible, substantive dealings on a Sunday and there was a greater level of service than in well-paid parts of the private sector.

Suzuki DF2.5 Float Full of a Liquid

I am going to make this up now but...... If you put it in hot water, will the expanded air in the float not have to escape through the leak allowing you to identify where it is. Then get rid of the petrol within and a hot knife or similar to seal the leak ?

Suzuki DF2.5 Float Full of a Liquid

No, it should be full of air only. Often, when they leak, it is not possible to see the source of the leak. New float I suggest

    Another sad loss.

That is terrible news - as you say, Simon was absolutely charming, ever helpful and knew his business backwards.

    Barges for sale

Pre-children, Mrs P and I were into the old wooden boat thing and wintered our old gaffer in a yard whose owner was very skilled and who repaired Thames barges. We discussed with said owner about taking on a TB and was not encouraged. He then sent me a niche book about TBs inscribed to me saying...

Lift keels on bigger yachts - views

We have a Stephen Jones designed 2010 Southerly 38 (our seventh boat and our second Southerly) We find it excellent and echo Ian's comments above though, with this boat, we consider we have excellent directional stability. Last boat was a Stephen Jones Sadler 290 which was stable and fast and I...
