    Crossing the Thames Estuary

Hi, Great that you have chosen Daydream's advice and leave the Crouch by the conventional route. I've not done the sums, but it seems to me that the Haven gore bridge is disfunction Al for about 30% of the days in a year, rather like all other equipment procured under a MoD contract. Sticking...

Resturant in Burnham on Crouch Marina.

Hi, You won't have trouble getting into the Polash, when we walk past on a Friday or Saturday evening, on our way to one of the places I have recommended, they seem to have between 0 and 6 cudtomers dining, wheras you win't get into the good places ib Burnham if you don't book, that sums up the...

    Deben entrance 2024

I didn't think the Deben buoys, other than the Woodbridge Haven, were funded or maintained by Trinity House, but I may be wrong there. Peter.

    Clacton and Walton Lifeboats

Hi Juan,2,3, You argue the logic for this decision very clearly and I have little doubt that you are correct that this change was inevitable sooner or later. I also agree that emotions run high when much loved local institutions are under threat, and I would have hoped that the RNLI understood...

Gas locker needs work (Titchmarsh Marina)

Making the lid of a locker watertight sounds to me like a typical job for a shipwright. No need for any specialism in gas systems for this job. Peter.

    Zeeland trip

Lowestoft to Ijmuiden is a reasonable passage. You need to get through the Greater Gabbard wind farm, which is fairly straightforward, then a slight deviation to dodge one more just off Ijmuiden. If you're headed for the Ijsellmeer and points north, it's my preferred crossing, but not so good...

Resturant in Burnham on Crouch Marina.

Hi j & m, I agree with you re the RCYC, but not clear whether by BYC iyou mean the Royal Burnham Yacht Club or Burnham Sailing Club. As far as I'm aware, the BSC only do food for members and mostly on Wednesdays. We do use Bellas, but don't consider it outstanding, we much preferred their...

    Barges for sale

You're absolutely right there! Of course, to fit a prop shaft on a barge, you will have to pay to dry dock her, but it's still a fairly straightforward operation. To replace rotten timber in a barge, like any wooden vessel, you have to reverse the order of build until the piece you want comes...
