    Another gearbox question.

Someone has suggested that one remedy for our gearbox problem it to change the oil a couple of times. As I think we have developed a problem with the clutch cone ( it fails to engage forward drive straight away), not sure how an oil change will help. Can anyone enlighten me? This would...

    Help with gearbox problem please.

Cheers, I’m fairly sure it’s a worn clutch cone. Problem is we are currently in France which is shut for August. Have an engineer coming out on Wednesday. Pretty sure he will simply recommend a new gearbox.

Suggestions to avoid dropping cotter pins in the water

We are unstepping the mast next week while in the water. The last time I had to remove a cotter pin from the vang, it was a little stuck, so was tapping it gently with a hammer to dislodge it, and it bounced over the side. Can you suggest tips to stop this happening again? Holding a cloth...

Yanmar 3j5he stalling problems at idle. Update.

I posted yesterday discussing our engine starting to stall at low revs or at idle. This was happening when both cold and warm. As suggested I pulled the feed apart this morning and it was clear. I also disassembled the cut off valve assembly. Inside I found a ball of what I imagine is my girls...

    Yanmar 3J5HE problems. Help please

Hey, Our 7 year old Yanmar engine is playing up. It has 1000 hours on the clock and has been serviced regularly. Initially by Yanmar, then by myself. Over the last few days, it has suddenly started intermittently stalling at idle. It happens when the engine is hot or cold. It restarts after...

Help! I think I have osmosis

Had the boat hauled yesterday and while cleaning her this morning, found a line of hundreds of little blisters along the waterline. The area is normally immersed in water. Popped one of the blisters and a vinegary fluid came out. So im fairly sure it's osmosis. I now have some questions and...

Does the production of a new model boat, devalue price of the older models?

We were looking at a Fontaine Pajot Helia 44 and the relative costs of these cats. They have since launched a new 45. Will this devalue the used 44’s on the market and make them worth less, now it is the previous model? If so how much less would you hazard a guess at? Cheers

    cost of in-boom furling?

The time has come to change both our mainsail and jib. At the moment we are looking at about 10k for a new set of sails. However while we are getting quotes, does anyone have experience and cost for a furling boom for a 40ft yacht? It may be an option to consider. Cheers

Hello all, Bit of a head scratcher and i would love your help in trying to work out what the problem is here. Two days ago we were motor sailing along when we noticed we had picked up a crab pot. It was attached to a really thin (2mm) polyprop line. We cut the line and then that evening when...
