    Craftinsure insurance feedback

I used to insure with Y Yacht ins but the increase in premiums forced me to look elsewhere. I chose Craftinsure on cost and had an unfortunate Marina incident (my fault) end of last year and they have been absolutely great. Very communicative and agreed for the work to be done on the boat...

    Normandy Coast

Don’t forget you will have to check in & out of Ports of Entry. St Vaast isn't one of them unfortunately You could go direct to Cherbourg to check in. Then to St Vaast and return to Cherbourg to check out or carry on from St Vaast & check out at Honfleur, or Caen. Going the other way...

Les Powles - Solitaire. Update please.

I am pretty sure he went into sheltered accommodation as the boat was no longer suitable for him to live on. He was my neighbour in Lymington Yacht Haven in 2018/19 but we took the boat to France for a couple of years & have just returned to Lymington. His boat is no longer where it was but I...

cheeky ask? Anyone have a Hallberg Rassy Rasmus?

There is a Rasmus 35 next to me in Plymouth Yacht Haven - I am just visiting and leaving tomorrow but if you contact the marina office they may pass your details to the owner - boat name is Phoenix. Hope that helps.

    Visiting France

Different port but same country. I emailed the marina in St Vaast (where I keep my boat) to ask if they had any guidance on whether visiting yachts would have to check in & out via Cherbourg as it’s a port of entry and this is the translated reply. Hello, For the moment we have no information...

    French Ports of Entry

Cherbourg (Chantereyne) Marina isn’t on the list! That will be VERY inconvenient.

Annual berthing rates and changing marinas

I had my boat at Lymington Yacht Haven a couple of years ago and wanted to leave half way through the contract to take the boat to France. The berth I had was probably the closest to the facilities in the marina and they had a waiting list and particularly someone with mobility issues so the...

    How tiring is single-handed sailing?

Getting ready to berth is always a pain. Going into a marina and not knowing what to expect for me means having a line rigged on both bow , midships and stern cleats As well as a lasso line if the potential of getting blown off. I prefer to berth stern to as the French pontoons are so short so...

    Sailing to France

I visited Cherbourg (From St Vaast) last week and no questions at all on where we had come from. Masks necessary etc and plenty of space on the visitors pontoon.

People helping to catch your lines

I have been caught out a couple of times this year when reversing into a berth the “helper’ hasn’t secured the line or taken a full turn onto the cleat so I have been unable to motor against it to hold the boat onto the pontoon. I now lasso the cleat - luckily I haven’t missed yet.

Covid restrictions in France, as of now.

We are in St Vaast and the town is the busiest I have ever seen it in over 20 years of having a house here. The restaurants are packed and a reservation is necessary. The shops are all insisting on masks but surprisingly not in the Saturday market although a fair number of people are wearing...
