We did what you are wanting to do, setting off mid May, at the beginning of our round Britain (OK, round England, Wales and the southern half of Scotland) trip a few years ago. The plan was to get up to the Clyde as quickly as possible; we had a fortnight before we had to be home for a week's...
I agree, our S29 (bought in 2007) came with an old Autohelm 2000 tiller pilot (which became the Raymarine ST2000, after they took over autohelm). This had quite a lot of use with us, including steering us round Britain in 2015 without issue, and was still working fine when we sold the boat in 2016.
I'm very biased, as my wife and I sailed round England, Wales and the southern half of Scotland in 2015 in a bilge keel Sadler 29.
Go for the Sadler, as others have said, similar interior space. The Sadler will be warmer with less condensation due to the double skin with foam construction. The...
Thank you for your reply, and sorry, I've been away for the weekend, and not looking at the interweb.
I think Plymouth is a bit far to go, and so fingers crossed for something closer to home.
Finally, yes an excellent boat the 290. We are very pleased with ours.
Hello, I'm looking for the above to increase my scope, and wondered if anybody had a spare length in reasonable condition kicking about in their shed / garage.
Ideally in the Solent area.
Many thanks,
You can store spare cylinders on their side, but the cylinder in use must be upright, or you'll get liquid gas coming through the regulator, and causing flare ups on the cooker.
Note that sometimes gas cylinders are liquid take off, eg for powering engines (forklift trucks often have gas...
Going back to the OP's first post, where it is implied he wishes to re-use the prop shaft. When we replaced the Bukh DV20 on out Sadler 29 with a Beta 25, we needed a new prop shaft, as the old one was too short. Not a lot of cash in the context of re-engining, but something to consider.
I took the hull anode off our previous Sadler 29 years ago (I think it was 2011), and filled in the holes as follows. It is still afloat today...
Firstly, the holes were in a single skin area of the hull, behind the engine, so there were no issues with working through the inner skin, and foam...
A little bit of thread drift, but I strongly recommend replacing the shear pin, which is made from something extremely hard, with a length of 3mm diameter brass. I have a friend with a Torqeedo around 4 yrs old, who is on his second prop, as he hit rocks with the first, and the blade failed...
If it all fits in your car, you could take it to a Boat Jumble?
Next one near you seems to be May next year at Newton Abbot

If it were mine, I'd get a 6 kg rocna, and a combination of 6 mm chain and 12 mm 3 plat nylon. That will be relatively light both to stow in the bow, and pull up by hand, and will hold the boat in any weather condition you're likely to get in the UK. Personally I'd go for more chain (say 30m)...
On our previous 1984 model Sadler 29, which had 4 blakes seacocks presumably from new, it was the heads outlet where the cone got pitted. I'm guessing it was due to something nasty sitting against it due to too little pumping after using the heads. It was replaced with a new blakes, with the...
We are quite pleased with our Sabre sails spray hood, which we got 3 yrs ago. The price was very good at sub £400. It is well made, and the fit is reasonable.
I asked that they didn't fit the "lift the dot" fasteners, and I fitted them on the boat (easy to do with small hammer and piece of...
