What was your first boating experience?

ha - snap! Except we used to 'charter' Hiawatha (1977 ish)- a sturdy 2 seat canoe (think that's a green version of one in the foreground) Moved on from the Mere to an Orkney Strikeliner - then Warrior 165 and now the Bav.

    Outdrives & Servicing

I bought my workshop manual from Keypart (mail order - www.keypart.com). Self serviced this year no problem - off and back on in leisurely 2 days. Agree you need 2 pairs of hands for back on bit.

    France, Belium or Holland?

we had our first trip over the year before last - for a 3 day weekend I would recommend Dunkerque initially - you can plan your passage across the estuary to pass off Ramsgate then a short crossing past the sandiette lightship before you turn left for Dunkerque (you could alternately try...

    Staunchions/rails/pushpits.

Hi, I have a BMB29 and last summer a very kind raggie lost control while berthing and came to, full onto my bow - my anchor made sure he came off worse but none the less one of my starboard stanchions was loosened and would not re-tighten with the original screws. I was advised that the screws...

    anchor windlass question.

that's quite a generalisation - I have both helm and bow remote sockets for my windlass remote, I've hardly ever used the bow. I have good vis of the chain from the helm, have a self locating bow roller for the anchor and the anchor locks in under the power of the windlass.

    sliding door key snapped off!

did exactly the same with mine when I first took delivery. The lock is held in place by the small bolt which has no head either side - you need to get some grips on it either side and undo - the lock then slides off.
