I’ve got a Teltonika in my yacht, from when we lived aboard in the Med.
It‘s a great unit, does a ping frequently and if no response, will reset the connection, which saves a lot of power off and on and signal dropping out.
My only gripe is the sim slot is underneath a panel held down with...
Thanks guys - industrial is no problem, I only need it for a few weeks to do some maintenance so not looking for scenery!
Will have a ring around on Monday and see what availability is like.
Just as an aside - the 4000 series can be massively improved by adding a simple gyro, which hugely improves the response.
The standard setup doesn’t have it, and in my experience the response was useless above about a F4. Adding a gyro (small box mounted down the centre line, 3 wires in to the...
Ahoy shipmates.
So I’ve decided to bring my yacht back from the south of France due to the impending B. issues.
Plan is to have it trucked back to Southampton area and I need a good, cheap yard that I can offload to so I can do some maintenance. Looking for a recommendation for a smaller yard...
Hmm, you're more organised than me then.... I was looking at an 83m2 gennaker so it seems I was in the right ball park with that. Not sure I can justify the maintenance, three sails, £3k of new electronics AND the moving back costs all in one year, so I might have to prioritise a bit and...
Not many indeed! Have you got a spinnaker/gennaker of any kind? I'm going to invest for UK sailing (didn't seem worth it in the Med with just me and wifey on board), interested in any advice on size, etc.
Great advice, thank you everybody.
I'll get reading the book, and will also ask first mate to read up as well so we have at least two of us that know the rules. If we don't manage to get at least a bit of practice done over the early summer, then it'll have been a wasted trip back for the...
Good shout. Insurance renewal is April and I need to make sure she's covered for the return trip by trailer, etc. so I'll ask about novice racing at the same time. With so many entrants, I'm sure it can't be too difficult to get cover?
Racing rules was something I was going to study beforehand, but it's good to know if I even have theoretical knowledge of the rules I might be half a lenght ahead. Any recommendations of reading material that isn't purely wordy? I was reading up about Rule 17 recently but got totally lost, a...
I'll hopefully be moving my yacht back from France this springtime. Just got a mailer about RTI entries being open and thought it might be a bit of fun to do with some mates.
I am not a racer. I have done a bit of regatta stuff as crew, doing as I was told, but have never entered my own yacht...
About 75k (paid in EUR, and the tax separately), then almost immediately purchased stuff like a decent kedge anchor and chain, a new dinghy outboard, new suite of life jackets, new cockpit speakers, and the most expensive thing, a new plotter (£2200-ish), plus other odd chandlery bits. I guess...
I've been to Hainan a couple of times, best I could get was a slightly worse for wear Hobie at one of the resort hotels. Definitely not much in the way of regattas, etc.
Best bet is still HK, where the regatta scene at least partly exists.
