Ok has a reply from the rating office
“You will need to declare any and all poles, so the answer is yes, you will need to declare a whisker pole, bowsprit and a spinnaker pole if you add one”
I’ll add a my spi pole as a “whisker pole” next year, and see how the rating comes back.
Thanks Flaming
The IRC rules changed in 2019 and are now silent regarding whisker poles. It used to have a paragraph stating that you could not pole out a spinnaker, but could a Genoa
I guess that’s why the Fastnet committee have clarified the rules, for their race
I don’t want to rate the boat...
No, I mean a staysail as described in the article you attached as a “Genoa Staysail”
It’s deployed to a hard point on the deck, and hoisted on fractional halyard.
Seen one on a J109 recently .
It’s a good option on passage racing at night, possibly. Just wondered if any rating issues?
Seeing a fair few boats now fitting a staysail, using a sail (Jib cut) on a furler with a torsion cable sewn into the luff, and then hoisting using a spi halyard
Guessing using for power reaching when above code zero wind limits
Seems like a good idea, especially short handed
Any rating issues?
Getting " Wind Batt" message on displays, and wind data disconnects from displays. Before fault finding starts, is it likely to be a display battery or the wind transmitter battery (T222) at the top of the mast? (crane needed to change batt, due height of wind cup unit)
