    Southerly lifting keel

There is already a lot of good information in previous replies, but I would like to add a little. The Southerly keel is best lifted, locked in place and lowered onto the pin, if it is to be left for any length of time, because . . . 1. If the keel is left hanging on the pennant for a long...

Which boat has the best owners forum?

I agree. However membership of the SOA Association is only £20 per annum not as mentioned in the above post. For more details see here. http://www.soa-forum.org.uk/blog/ Southerly Boats have a substantial and unique patented cast iron lifting keel. It is a keel not a centre board, it weighs...

    Lifting keel boats

I have a Beneteau 323 with lifting keel, I have kept it on a drying mooring for 7 months each summer for more than 10 years. The bottom is firm with sand and shingle, never a problem. George

you're not going to believe this

In my humble opinion and that of Vyv Cox ("Metals in Boats" Page 38, Chapter 3). Stainless steel galling is a type of welding , therefore the best grease is molybdenum disulphide. But, if I have got this wrong, because of the mix of metals then I hope Vyv will be along soon to correct me. George.

Are these seacocks open or closed?

Not necessarily, the ends of the hoses are probably above water level. The handle of sea cock on the left can be seen below the wooden base, in line with the hose, as already stated OPEN. The other one can also be seen below the wooden base, but it does not look directly in line, so although...

    Problem with Flojet Pump...

One of the parts that usually break if the system is frozen is the pressure switch at the base of the pressure pump. Is this what you changed? If it was not then the problem could well be there. It is also worth checking if your Accumulator Tank is up to pressure. You will find a valve at...
