Who Cares about red boards?
We are seeing an increasing number of rowers and paddleboarders out here, in the Mapledurham/Caversham section. while still an redboards.
I saw them land passengers on the jetty that took a long time to disperse due to queues for the loos, but the steamer did not stay there long after a very skillful turnround and mooring..
It is now run by Av boats which offer day boats for hire, but also pump out for £25 and water for £5 and fuel at £1.28 - no gas though. The main chandlery building is now a cafe.
UTMYC have 6 boats trapped below the Hammersmith Bridge and currently holed up in St Kats.
I do not understand why it is so dangerous for boats to pass underneath it as it is still standing over 14 days since the restrictions were imposed. It would only take 30 secs to pass under it.
We were stuck at Abingdon and was only Boatones information that allowed us to escape today.
In fact the lock was cleared 10pm on the 6th and the ea website at 16:00 today (7th) it still saying it is shut. Total nonsense!.

The situation seems totally daft, as having renovated the moorings they don't seem to want them used!
I have just received this message from friends of mine who inspected the notices.
'In case you are not aware, there is now an immediate charge of £9.50 for mooring or ‘remaining stationary’...
No, we have done the trip many time, but it does need careful planning.
You can leave Richmond lock at low tide or as soon as they let you out and punch the tide to get to St Kats for their opening window. Otherwise stop over at Chiswick pier or Imperial wharf.

This was not actual rescue but a planned exercise involving Fire and Rescue, Police, Ambulance, EA and RAF. No doubt prompted by the incident at Shiplake Weir.
The joint exercise involved rescuing 8 people in the water near the weir by various means including winching a dummy up to the RAF...
