I’ve sailed on an IP SP Cruiser. Not much fun as a sailing boat but amazingly comfortable below. The galley is superb, the owners’ cabin and en suite head is also wonderful. The wheelhouse/saloon had a huge table and a great view out. Very comfortable to live aboard. Loads of stowage and big...
Does anyone have a copy? I believe there was an article about a Mashford 4 tonner, and I'd like to read it if possible? I'd be grateful for a scan or a photograph.
thank you
Might be worth looking at Eastlands Boatyard, at the top of the Hamble. You have to pass below the M27 road bridge with air draught of 13 feet at high water, so I don’t know if your Hatteras would fit. All motorboats there, of course.
It is almost never “worth” spending money on a boat. That applies at pretty much every level of the market from the eight/nine figure super yachts to the £100 dinghy. But lots of people do it, anyway. I think this is a good thing. Loads of good stuff is worthless: music, flower arranging, circus...
Thats all excellent advice and a very do able plan. The only thing I'd add is that the little stretch between N Foreland and Ramsgate can, for some reason, be surprisingly bouncy when wind is against tide. I don't think it is anything particularly to worry about, just be aware. I came round once...
Do buy the book. It’s invaluable. But if you want a concise answer, stick to the deeper water channels. A straight line course to the Foreland is unwise
And visit the East Coast Forum too. Lots of up to date useful information there
I have this app on an iPhone and iPad. I’ve paid my subscription for 2024 but it will only show tides up to 7 days ahead. I’ve used this app for years with no problem and always been able to see the data for the whole calendar year. But not now. Anyone else using it had the same issue?
John Lilley is one of the most experienced surveyors in the country. His comments are worth serious consideration. "Either spend a fortune, or nothing at all"
It may be that the best/right thing to do is simply to sail her, gently, as she is, while you can.
Epoxy sheathing is not a trivial...
Great boats. Sort the rig, sails, motor, loo, galley, upholstery. Sea cocks. Bilge pumps. Running rigging. These are all vital. Maybe the loo is optional……
Fit a compass and log. Modern VHF has GPS. Buy a tablet with Navionics and a spare.
All the rest can wait.
