    Wanted - Lewmar Winch 40ST parts ref. 15000138 Top Cap x 2 and 15000124 Upper Crown Ring x 2 Thanks :)

Thanks - but already been down that same route with the top caps when we ‘refurbed’ our winches a few years ago. Went for a mix of the cheaper printed ones and new-old stock (likely the £45 you were quoted?). Sadly they haven’t had much use as the rest of the boats still ‘in refit’, but the 3d...

Yup maybe try posting on main (PBO) forum as some members have had their wave grips updated to fit the newer parts. My understanding is a retired Lewmar engineer offers this service. £100 seems cheap unless it’s labour only, but as an owner of 3 pairs of various wave grip sizes I’m all ears…!

    Jeanneau 38 as livaboard

Ah, I omitted Sunshine - assumed too sporty. To the 80s list we could also add the Gin Fizz at 37’. It really is a guessing game now!

River Mersey to be barraged and locked upstream of Tranmere for tidal energy

We always say we’re blessed with ‘the light’ on Merseyside… St Ives of the North West?! Me too. 10m springs. No doubt. Presumably the idea is that the level upstream is kept at a ‘low tide’ state and energy is generated as the rising tide is allowed through the barrage?

River Mersey to be barraged and locked upstream of Tranmere for tidal energy

Apparently a scheme to build a tidal electricity-generating barrage across the River Mersey upstream (south) of Tranmere Oil Terminal is progressing, with approval of various local authorities and the region Mayor. This will involve completely blocking the River with a pedestrian causeway and...

    Jeanneau 38 as livaboard

More info obviously needed, otherwise could be brand new 380, 1980s Voyage 11.2 or anything in between

Oyster 46 1981 - Whole deck core replacement

In the UK, the cost of G10 sufficient to cover all high load fittings would be prohibitive. Even making your own, the materials would add up. That’s why ply remains the prevailing solution for high stress areas. Marine ply plus drill-fill-drill should make it pretty fail safe.

    Ramsey marina, IoM

Ever been there for an easterly gale, though? Rare scourge of Irish Sea moorings. (Not that I’m against another local marina either…)

Oyster 46 1981 - Whole deck core replacement

On reflection, the only part of the OP’s plan I’d question is reusing the old deck skin. What’s the condition like (you mention old screws plus holes)? Can you post/link pics? Presumably you’re hoping to preserve parts of the moulding like hatch surrounds? I’d weigh up simply replacing all new...

Oyster 46 1981 - Whole deck core replacement

Is this a joke?! …given the OP’s account above… I raise you expanding foam! The forum has really descended to the point where we can only answer ‘how do I know what direction my sailyboat is pointing?’ or ‘where can I buy a paintbrush?’?! The OP’s suggested repair schedule sounds reasonable...

    Diesel heaters now £75

It is possible to source CE certificated ‘Chinese’ heater, Paul: Lavaner Pro. They cost closer to £200. They still come with a non-sealed (vehicle) exhaust. We’ve got one and it came with copies of a CE and TUV certificates from the same TUV lab in Germany. The manufacturer claims higher build...

    Working online....

I'd doubt you'd get very far with 'generic' remote work/outsourcing opportunities in this day and age. Generative AI is replacing many of these tasks anyway (proof reading, copy editing etc.) and there is a large and established labour pool available in the developing world for those that remain...

Beginning to think we need a bigger boat

As a minor aside, it’s likely a fair bit heavier…! We have a ‘89 Voyage and she surprised us (and set off the crane alarms!) weighing in at over 9.5t completely dry (mid-refit).

Beginning to think we need a bigger boat

Well, more recently still, Erik the Viking motored into a rock and tore the nuts out of his Contessa. Granted, it didn’t sink…
