Stemar,
either the centaur you tried is a different spec to mine or you are a little taller than you think. I am 6ft 3ins and can manage comfortably on my centaur. As for berth length, both quarter berths and the port side seating , which also makes a (small) double are more than long enough...
Does anyone, by any chance, have any info, or know of any good/reputable/not too expensive, boat repair yards in NW England, somewhere hopefully between say Maryport nad Fleetwood. Have a 1978 Centaur and suspect I will have to have my Starboard keel dropped and rebedded. Also have a crack in...
I have a 1978 centaur (one of the later ones) which I bought 6 years ago and so far am very satisfied. In answer to your questions;
(a) £14k does seem rather expensive, unless of course it has all the extra gizmos including in-mast reefing, electronics, heating etc.
(b) in my experience they are...
For some reason the Belfield programme will not give info for Kircudbright but will give for Isle of Whithorn and Hestan island (for Kippford), both of which I presume are of no use to you, being a long keeler.

call up www.pol.ac.uk/appl/liverpool.html. This will give you 2 months free tide tables for Liverpool The company that supply them are Proudman Oceanographic. They currently have the tables for March and April available. Have been using them for years.
Hope this helps.

Re: Both
In the end it really depends on (a) how deep are your pockets? and (B) what do you really want your gps to do. If you are the type of sailor/navigator who feels the need to have all the electronic gizmos ever created and intend to do most of your navigating from the comfort of the...
On passage a couple of years ago from ravenglass to Douglas (IOM) I brought along a fisherman friend. he had a line with a light weight on the end and about a dozen hooks fitted on alternate sides. Within no more than 5 mins of throwing the line over the stern he hauled it back in along with 8...
I have a 1978 Centaur, fitted with the original MD11C engine. Have had the boat since 1995 . I am also the worlds greatest non-tech. Learned to sail in the RAF (Kiel) where you signed for a boat and then handed it back a week later so my technical expertise after 12 years sailing was really...
Rodolph, have a look at 2 previous posts
1. MD11C PROBLEMS dated 09/2001.
2. ENGINE COOLING dated 03/2002.
You may get some useful info from these. Hope this helps

I fitted new bow cleats to my Centaur a couple of years ago and used a general purpose sealant made by Dow Corning (much cheaper than Skalflex). So far , so good - have had no leaks (which the Irish sea would certainly have discovered)

I have a 1978 Centaur which I bought about 6 years ago. Since then I have bought a new mainsail, complete new roller reefing system and new headsail, new sprayhood, dodgers and sail cover. My boat is in quite good nick (I think so anyway), although the insrumentation is fairly basic, not many...
