    Sacrificial anode

Thanks for the replies. Agree re: hanging anode on a rope, I couldn’t quite fathom that out. The marina electrical system is very old, the boat/saildrive sits in the soft mid, I think, most of the time and all of the boats nearby are plugged in all of the time. I will avoid plugging her in...

    Volvo Saildrive Propeller Problem ...

Thanks - yes, I could, had it not suffered significant pitting due to the anode burning away over the winter. Sadly, I need a new propeller anyway.

    Manual versus windlass anchors

Quite simply - if you anchor a lot buy an electric windlass. If you anchor rarely, leave it as it is. Like most external items exposed to salt water, Electric windlasses are best used regularly and well maintained - greased and electrical connections kept dry and/or well blasted with WD40.

    Sacrificial anode

Grateful for views. My boat has a Volvo Saildrive. It’s factory/professionally fitted. The boat is a high quality GRP Dutch yacht. She has a cast iron fin keel. This year due to silting up/failing to dredge the marina within which the boat is kept, she is hard aground in the mud when the tide is...

    Volvo Saildrive Propeller Problem ...

Thank you all. Put the boat on the post today and the problem was ... propeller hub. I could just about turn the propeller by hand with the engine locked in gear, put a mark across the prop and come and it was slipping. Trust assists anyone else who reads this in the future. (And I should...

    Volvo Saildrive Propeller Problem ...

Thank you. That is very helpful and would seem to fit the symptoms. I’ll check the engine number with Volspec to see if likely needed the spline job or not. On the basis it may need this done, could I ask (feel free to PM me if you prefer) who did the job for you, which area of the country it w...

    Running Backstays

My boat is the same (Dutch yacht, similar to a Najad.) Our boat does not have swept back spreaders, unlike most similar boats - they are perpendicular, hence the running back stays are theoretically needed in heavy weather. So, to start with, suggest check your spreader angle and go from there...

    Volvo Saildrive Propeller Problem ...

Grateful for the forums advice. I have a Volvo Penta 2003 engine on a 120S saildrive. 35’ fin keel yacht. I am a reasonably competent engineer. When I took the boat out last week the saildrive engages and disengages perfectly. The engine and drive operates perfectly ahead and astern up to around...

    Volvo 2003 water flow

Nb: the hardest part was getting the exhaust hose off; I took the jubilee clip off then used a flat head screwdriver and a hammer to wiggle/hammer/work around the pipe to break the rust and free it from the elbow. Once freed, it slid off fairly easily. When I put it back I used a liberal smear...

    Volvo 2003 water flow

Previously had the same scenario on the same engine (freshwater cooled version.) I took the exhaust elbow off first and it was largely clear. Not too difficult a job but you need a replacement gasket and sealant/red hermetite etc. Next check was the heat exchanger - not sure what you have in...

    Yard lockdown Storage charges

You typically would have a berthing licence (to include dry storage when the boat is ashore) and that gives you a right of access to your boat. If the yard has stated that you cannot access your boat then they have potentially revoked your licence - the reason is irrelevant; unless they have a...

Agree. Mine is a long way from a compass and the magnet provides a simple solution to mounting the gps puck.
