    Solent Hard Standing

Indeed : Isle of Wight is not practical for me, for exactly those reasons , Poole may be better, will check that option out, although Hayling Island may also be very good as would Thornham. Very good suggestions for comparison.

Now that’s a very good idea indeed! Need to check weight restrictions as trailer haul outs tend to be under 10T

    Solent Hard Standing

Does anyone know where the least expensive haul out, hard standing and hoist back in charges are in the Solent area; marina, clubs, commercial are all fine. I am looking for somewhere to haul out for 3 months in about a year from now. It’s for a 10.4m 12T ketch

Manoeuvring long keel sailboat out of birth in wind - Any tips?

If in a tight berth, in a long keeler with a pilothouse, the tip I have is to allow one crew to walk her half out into the fairway (then jumping aboard) before turning her. The starboard prop wash only engages at higher speeds than you can get to in a tight fairway so not as useful as some...

How long does it take to wash, polish and then wax grubby oxidised gelcoat?

I guess it depends, if you are hobby “working” on your own boat in your own time a lazy days “working” is wonderful. If I am working a paid days work then the former ! 0800-17:30 essential breaks only.

    Drying wall south coast

I am seeking a drying wall somewhere on the south coast to avoid a summer lift out to do hull maintanence work etc, does anyone know a good place for this? It’s a 34ft LOA with a long keel draught 1.5m

    Saildrives and loose bolts

I guess if you are on an MOD vessel you aboard every day, the wear and tear is very high, and the MOD pays for replacements, very different if you have to foot your own bills and work full time to pay for it all. I guess it’s all about safety within a sensible protocol.
