Vendee Globe and Alex Thomson / Hugo Boss

Escoffier’s description of PRB folding 90 degs and sinking, sounds like another major structural failure. Not good news for other similar boats in the Southern Ocean !!

Vendee Globe and Alex Thomson / Hugo Boss

Cannot help thinking he may have done better with his old HB from 2016 VG and Route de Rhum, which had stood up to plenty of hard sailing and was no slouch!!

Vendee Globe and Alex Thomson / Hugo Boss

If Le Cam or aother non foiler wins or gets a podium place it would really be a major upset, when you consider the fortunes that have been spent developing the latest IMOCA foiling boats!

    YM appears to be lost!

I was puzzled by photo in this month’s YM (August 20), page 34, supposed to be showing an AIS display of a very crowded Solent. On closer inspection it is in fact showing the Singapore Straits! Not that it effects the article. Just being pedantic.

Windy.com - wind speeds over land

I am often surprised annd puzzled that the very efficient Windy.com site nearly alaways shows strong winds over sea areas which drop off rapidly, (typically 2 beauforts) when reaching land. Rarely are gales shown over inland areas. I know that wind is generally alot stronger over open sea, but...

    Lime Bay mussel farms

Heard from the BBC today that extensive mussel farms have been laid and will be extended over a major part of Lime Bay. Although these will be properly marked on up to date charts and correctly buoyed, they will undoubtably prove a nuisance and possible hazard to any one sailing in the area and...
