    Narrow boat on the Severn

Hi tooHooter! I just watched that clip and it looks quite frightening, not safe in my opinion. I remember back in 1997 when I took a Seamaster 27 river cruiser on a week-long journey from Stourport to Reading. This was my first trip down the Severn Estuary. I was joined in the lock by a...

Crewing Opportunity next week - Portishead to South Coast

Hi all, I have a crewing opportunity the week after easter. If anybody is interested there is further information in the Bristol Channel Forum. It's a displacement motor boat - but it would suit sailors who like to stay warm and dry. Cheers, Ian Read more at...

Crewing Opportunity next week - Portishead to South Coast

Hi all, I am looking for a couple of helping hands for a trip that I am planning to make next week. This will be during the week commencing Tuesday 23rd April, just after the easter weekend. I am looking to move my Nordhavn 47 'Wanderlust' from Portishead Marina to Portland Marina and I want...

Seagull Spikes on a Satellite Dome?

Hi, I was wondering if anybody has had any success in putting anti seagull spikes (or similar) on top of a satellite dome? The domes are very thin and flexible and so attaching anything to the surface must not cause it to flex (and possibly crack) if a seagull flies into it. My satellite dome...

Anodes for Portishead mobo - Aluminium or Zinc?

Hi, Portishead is not river fed at all, it is 100% channel water. Zincs are the conventional option for Portishead. I am a great fan of aluminium anodes however and would certainly not worry about using them anywhere in the Bristol channel, especially if you find yourself visiting Cardiff...

    Echo sounder transducer

Tony, you may be ok to use another make but it depends... Most transducers are made by Airmar and rebranded for the main marine electronics companies, I don't know about Navman though. Most depth transducers are just piezoelectric devices tuned to either 200khz or 235khz but other frequencies...

Total newbie - Go easy on me!

I watched your video and it reminded me that it is always your first boat that rewards the most fun, as you get more experience and bigger boats that fun per pound unfortunately decreases. Just one observation - there is a speed limit on the Avon. At times on the video you are clearly...

    Raymarine ST290 Depth Pod Wanted

Hi, I'm after a Raymarine ST290 depth pod to replace one that's failed. (This version of pod should have the ST2 connections). If you have one to sell then please PM me. Cheers, Ian

    Trader fuel efficiency?

Here's an Elling E4 fitted with a stabiliser. I think it's the only one so far. I don't think they can be retrofitted as they have to move stuff around to accommodate it under the bed. It's also expensive though - this Gyro Seakeeper 5 was around a £50k option I believe.

Nordhavn 47 - a winter trip to Portishead

Hi to all those following this thread, I didn't realise that owning a Nordhavn would generate so much interest. I've been a member of the forum for quite a few years and it's taken to owning boat No.7 until I get my own thread started about our boat. I feel quite humbled that other forum...

    Moody 38 (1996) - primary fuel filter

That looks just like the one I had on my 1997 Moody 40. It is not a filter. It is a sediment collector. There is nothing missing, that's all you get. I changed mine for a Racor 500 and mounted it on the back of the engine room door for easy access. Ian

    Moody owners

As a Moody 40 owner I can give the answer that you were looking for: The Moody 42 as someone has correctly pointed out has an enlarged sugar scoop. The hull has been extended from the area of the lazarette lockers backwards to achieve this. The lazarette lockers are larger and you gain an...
