All,
Looking for advice on a motor boat for my in-laws. They have a waterside home in Lincolnshire with access to the canals. Neigbours have various power motor boats but this seems a bit of a waste as the speed limit is around 6 knots!
They want something simple, diesel, probably inboard, to...
Ive just discovered a problem with my radio on my Bavaria 35. I can no longer get any response from the coastguard on 16 or 67 for radio checks. I can hear the coastguard, etc ok.
However, i can speak and received calls on 06,16,67 or anything between myself and my portable VHF when someone is...
I have a Bavaria 35 with a Volvo engine. My co-owner was out at the weekend and tells me that although the engine was running fine, the rev counter kept moving from 0 - 7000 revs despite the engine actually staying steady.
Clearly something is at fault. Any suggestions where to look, i hope its...
Can anyone tell me a chandlery (preferably on-line) where i can buy an electricity cable with a BS Approved meter ? I can get them without a meter but my local chandlery (shamrock quay) and a few internet sites dont sell them

At the moment I have a VHF radio and Music radio down by the chart table, neither of which i can hear very well from the cockpit (particularly under engine)
I want to have a single speaker fitted in the cockpit area (away from the compass) so probably in one of the lockers that will both play...
Problem is getting the fore & aft lines far enough forward and back equivalent to the angle you'd get with springs. What if there are boats in front/behind or you're on the end of the pontoon ?
Springs allow you to achieve it inside your 'personal space'
In my view, unless you are alongside...
racing regulations
I think the fundemental thing is that it should be ready to deploy in case the engine goes and there is no wind and you are heading towards something dangerous.
On your boat it sounds like you have it sorted but on my bavaria, if it wasnt on the bow roller it can take quite...
My wife & I are taking the boat from Southampton to Brighton Marina (yes, I know YM slagged it off) for 3-4 days this weekend as we have friends who live there who we would like to see.
If we want to go out for 3-4 hours, is there anywhere to go other than out to sea and back again ?

Easier on a yacht ?
I've seen this kind of problem with power boat users too.
I sometimes think it is a lot easier on a yacht (which I own) as the keel limits sideways movement and using tide you can keep steerage at very low speeds.
I've never steered a large powerboat but I understand there...
why we dont wave
Its just that we often cant see you. Either you're behind tinted glass or up on a fly deck.
No other reason than that (for me anyway)!
You're right that this kind of thing doesnt get looked at but the figures are interesting.
At 25p per litre and assuming you travel around 6nm in an hour, you are probably doing about 30 land miles for a £1.
My car (which is thirsty and runs on petrol) costs about £45 to fill and does 450...
Shopping
If your wife is like mine, she loves shopping. Consequently, I include a stopover in places like Cowes so they can go round a get their fix even it is Musto and Gill rather than Chanel and Gautier
