Yes I would providing the automatic function worked well without failure, I assume that the designer has looked at the option and preferred the manual solution. I don't understand references to recovery being problematic, the video I linked to indicates a good solution, albeit vertical instead...
We have been using the Backtow lifejacket for nearly two years. It was chosen because we sail a light multihull which is very difficult to stop moving in a MOB situation. It requires that the user is able and not panicking, as a conscious action is needed to activate. I've no practical...
I have just purchased some back tow lifejackets from Team O...https://www.teamomarine.com/collections/all/products/teamo-inshore-170n-lifejacket-harness. They don't resolve the main issue relating to jackstays but they can make a difference if one falls in whilst tethered to the boat.

A good first step, in my opinion would be to contact Jim Duerden at Top Cat Cruising School...http://www.multihull.tv/rya-scheme/cruising-catamaran-training/. He...
Thanks Sandy, yes I can see the limitations, in my case triggering the lifejacket and deploying the back tow. But I guess in a worst case situation and unable to find/reach the back tow strop I wouldn't be in any worse situation than with a standard lifejacket.

Its time I need to replace my old lifejacket and stumbled on the new to me, Team O Marine...https://www.teamomarine.com/. From their website it appears an excellent product with the added advantage of towing somebody who has fallen overboard and still remains tethered face up rather than the...
Its interesting that Ocean Signal sell a PLB that can fit in a lifejacket cover attached to an inflation tube and an AIS MOB beacon that also fit to the same inflation tube. The current problem is which to fit as there is only one inflation tube which is only long enough for one device. How many...
I've not read the whole thread so apologies if this has already been suggested but the most successful way of recovering someone from the water I have found on my 40' catamaran is using a especially made ss tube with a large hook welded to one and an eye welded in the other. The device was made...
Complications again! I have a wide chord aluminum mast with the foot and head welded on, very strong but not conducive to running any other wire through. I'm hoping that the existing wire (2 core) is still serviceable and the new light can just be connected.
Thanks for your reply but I have a large overlapping genoa which when tacking would hand out a good hammering to the light, not sure which would win, probably neither. I'm looking for the bottom half of a combination light I guess.
The ancient deck light mounted onto the front of my mast has finally failed after probably 25 years, it gave a useful amount of light but at the cost of a near flat battery. My plan was to replace it with a LED unit, however searches so far have drawn a blank as all appear to be combination...
