A different view of ocean voyaging

There is a whole long thread on Sailing Anarchy Forums about that, including a contribution from her brother, as well as a link to an article from Fiji Times, published several years ago, where she presents a completely different point of view. Well worth a read, I think. Suzanne Heywood and...

    Overlapping headsails and small main

"About four years ago……how did you like the Dufour out of interest, thanks for your comments……asMrMicawbersaid something will turn up!" I do like quite well actually. It is a solid, traditional boat, if you like this sort of design, then it is great. Completely different to my own boat, but but...

    Overlapping headsails and small main

I do know the boat... But when did you actually sail anything for the last time? If it is not headlining, then it is the wrong size main. Nevermind, build on the 29th of February, wide sidecks etc. etc. boat is waiting out there.... Genuinely wishing you Good luck!

    Overlapping headsails and small main

Of course getting a cheap, or even free smaller mainsail, as well as a jib; is not an option, is it? Too simple a solution...

    Cuba

"You can ask the Cuban officials not to stamp your passport. That's what we did. We went to the Bahamas after Cuba then on to Florida. We have the B1/B2 visa and had no issues." Why would I do that?! It is fun, to have lots of different passport stamps. :) I did not encounter any problems, in...

    Cuba

So, I seem to be the only person writing in this thread who actually has been to both countries, and did not encounter any problems. Admittedly, travelling on an Irish passport. Would pictures of relevant passport pages convince you? Probably not. BTW the Tourist card I was issued was a separate...

    Cuba

I do not know if there are restrictions, but we were expected to tell the next marina about the time of arrival, in advance. Which in one case we missed by over 24h- due to beat to the wind- all the way there. The marina officials (custom officials? hard to tell, there were there in every...

    Cuba

You do need a visa to visit Cuba. I was there four years ago, so my information might be out of date, but do called Tourist card is required. They were supposed to introduce an electronic version. Cubans did not allow any food to be brought into the country, and insisted all was bought there...

    Me Too on Boats

Thank you for this, I was shocked at this tale of "a nice guy", to the extent that I couldn't put it into words. Dispicable behaviour. Thank you for this comment. A woman's voice here: I was repeatedly harassed in a " nice club" in the UK, where I kept my boat. I never searched for (strange)...

    Reaching struts

Quote: I'm now considering the Trogear 'V'ed twin boom-type arrangement fitted below the teak trim. You might find those two links of interest. The first is a low cost- but working solution, the other semi professional job. If you search for A-frame bowsprit, you might find more examples of...

    Late starter advice please...

I don't know why the last part of my message got separate- if moderators could remove this message please? I tried to delete it , but it did not work.

    Late starter advice please...

I would like to address the mobility issue: I have somewhat limited mobility, due to the very serious accident twelve years ago (injured back, and endoprosthesis in leg). While it limits what I can and cannot do on the boat, it is actually possible to adjust the set up of the boat, to (almost)...

Sail Trim Book to replace “The Best Of Sail Trim”

What about this: Illustrated Sail & Rig Tuning: Genoa & Mainsail Trim, Spinnaker & Gennaker, Rig Tuning: 1 (Illustrated Nautical Manuals): Amazon.co.uk: Dedekam, Ivar: 9781898660675: Books Does not purport to be a "bible"; but is a very well structured short book, covering the modern sails/rig...

How many other folk feel the same?

Dear Sir, my anger, as you put it, was directed towards -a minority- and I do stress a small minority- males, who show very disrespectful attitude towards women. In writing, as well as in person. BTW I have never had any problems finding crew. ? In fact, I often offered to take out...
