For anyone who has zinio, or uses zinio, or is interested but thought it's all a bit expensive....Today is Black Friday there as well, so you can get cheap issues and subs.

So here's a bargain or two....

12 digital issues of Yachting Monthly or Yachting World can be had for £15 +vat

OR (and this is the real reason for the post but I thought I should plug my employer first)

Sail magazine 12 issues £2.82! inc VAT

Just make sure you unclick the "continuous service" button so you don't get billed the full amount when the next year comes around :)

Clicky clicky to get other Zinio Black Friday things

Sorry, it will be full price again tomorrow, forget you didn't see this thread, or cheer yourself up and get SAIL for a few quid

I did. There are a a few interesting articles written from a different perspective. These included one on ice yachting that brought back memories from many years ago of scaring my self sh**less on a frozen lake in Germany.

Well, I am a sucker for all things digital, so I took the plunge and converted from a printed YM sub to the Zinio one.

Whilst the articles are easy to read, and for me much more convenient, I am very disappointed in the quality of photo reproduction on IPad.

The photos in YM are great, but the low resolution reproduction is not acceptable.

Come on Snooks! Tell them they are not doing justice to your fine work. If they respond with some lame excuse about bandwidth do not let them get away with it.

Thanks for the info

Thanks for the information, already get SAIL at the exorbitant price of £4 for 12 issues, really good value. Just subscribed to YM for the reduced price, more like the price I would consider, normal price is far too expensive..

Probably commercially sensitive, but would be interesting to know what proportion of cost is devoted to printing and distributing a paper magazine.

I'm more than happy to pay £1.50 a copy for a computer based mag.

Would a computer based mag be commercially viable?

My delight at a bargain was very quickly quashed by the frustration of the Zinio 4 reader crapping out when you try to download the windows version.

I dumped Zinio for this sort of problem several months ago and should have known better.

Thanks to you though Snooks for a nice gesture

IPC

Thanks for the advice, have subscribed to Sail. Also signed up for Yachting Monthly as I shall be in France for 6 months and this is an easy way to get the mag. Hope your employer appreciates your sales efforts.

I woked for IPC for a decade or so

they employed robust testosterone style of management

not big on gratitude

one manager reminded me that the only function of us hacks was to add value to a 40 tonne truck load of paper by putting in words that had to be just good enoough to get people to buy the Farmers Weekly and turn the pages so that the farmers saw the adverts.

after that he said he did not give a tinkers cuss about quality - he used a different word though

I am sure that they are much more touchy feelie now though.
