Hi,
I've just taken down my mast to fit a wind instrument and in doing so removed the base plate that fits into the mast and sits into the mast shoe fixed to the deck. The plate is held into the mast foot by 4 small stainless steel screws'
I've noticed some reaction between the screws, mast and plate which is to be expected after 30+ years. However after cleaning the parts I would like to refit the screws with a zinc chromate paste or similar product to prevent or slow down the dissimilar metals reacting.
Does anyone know the right product for this work and where it can be obtained?

Thanks in anticipation of usual knowledgeable responses.

Harry.

The stuff you want is called Duralac. It comes in tube like toothpaste and your average swinderely will relieve you of about 11 quid for it.

The good thing is a little goes a long long way so the tube should last a lifetime unless you take up assembling airframes for a hobby!

Be careful as because a little goes a long way if you smear it everywhere you'll spend ages cleaning up. Don't ask me how I know. Plus, if you leave it laying on its side with the lid off it kind of creeps out on its own like its alive! Again, don't ask...

Hope this helps.

Tim

and it is actually barium chromate paste.

Didn't discover that until I had chucked out a whole jar full of barium chromate powder from the lab chemical store.
