YW "People's Boat"

I think you had the plans from me; years ago. I used to own one too!

She was called 'Jacaranda' and she was built in Hong Kong.

But although I was very fond of the boat, in those pre-mobile phone days I never took any photos of her. Or if I did, I have lost them.

I would like to remind myself what she looked like.

I don't need large scale plans but if there was any way you could send me a scanned A4-size copy, I would be very grateful; and happy to pay any cost involved.

Thanks for that. It brought back memories of sailing in Hong Kong waters more than 50 years ago.
Poignard
When were you sailing Jacaranda in HK and where? We had a Choy Lee Folkboat called Bounty in Shelter Cove 1974 to 76, so we might have raced against you. Very few pictures from that era, unfortunately.

I think we left HK in 1974 so probably missed you.

Jacaranda was berthed in the typhoon shelter at Wanchai; on a RHKYC mooring.

Great little boats and ahead of their times.

If you really love Painting, Scraping Sanding and Varnishing Then that's the boat for you.
If you'd rather go sailing, then leave it alone.

You're right, of course. Owning a wooden boat takes a special kind of insanity, which I just don't suffer from, but I'm really glad that there are people who do. They have my admiration and, when they've got everything just so, with bright paint and shiny varnish, just a tad of envy. That envy lasts until the next bit of varnish begins to flake, and not a moment longer.

Each to their own. Back in the seventies & early eighties when I had a Peoples Boat the time spent in the boatyard around Easter, in the company of others with similar boats, doing similar chores was a sociable & enjoyable one - making new friends, swapping yarns & praying either for no rain so we could paint or for the opposite so we could all go to the pub.
