First a quick update... YSE8 that had sat waist deep in water for 10 years is now running thanks to (mostly) a new set of piston rings.

Many months ago I took a very rusty alternator off the engine with a label that I thought said it was a Lucas 100/101. I duly bought one of these alternators and between removal and now seem to have disposed of the old one.
Despite taking dozens of photos I don't have any of the old alternator when it was in position. I cannot see how to fit the new alternator as it has the fixing points at the front of the casing. I know the engine pulley has had some sort of conversion due to the weld marks around it. It looks like a second pulley has been added just over 40mm in front of the existing pulley for the water pump belt.
Has anybody here converted a YSE engine to a readily available Lucas type alternator? Anybody know where I can find dimensions of alternators on line? Even if I was happy to pay the £130 for a Yanmar part I'm not sure it would fit due to the pulley modification.

Thanks in advance

Steve

The Driftgate 2000 website, ( sorry, my links don't seem to work at the moment ), has dimensions for a number of replacement alternators, including one compatible with the Lucas A127. This is a common machine on various marine diesels and vehicles.
An A127 can be bought for ~£60 on ebay IIRC, but is probably also to be found in breakers yards.

Now I know what the mayor of Gotham City feels like after he's sent the bat signal! Within minutes of asking the question I've been directed to exactly the right place to help.. Looks like Driftgate are the people to talk to. Many thanks

I hope the two attached diagrams help? The YSE originally had a 25amp Hitatchi alternator fitted with a remote voltage regulator, you cannot buy these anymore. I have also attached a diagram showing the later YSM which uses a standard type alternator but the bracket is different.
For parts try calling John Skewes at Cellar marine 01326 280214 he is a mind of information on the older yanmars

Thanks for the further replies, I think I have it sussed now. With the help of google images and Driftgate I identified the miscellaneous bracket in the box of leftovers/spares that should enable me to fit the Lucas alternator.

If ever you get the chance to visit John at Cellar Marine I suggest you take it.. A great bloke with a great depth of knowledge, along with his staff. Also in a really nice part of the world that's remote enough that you will never complain about delivery charges again!
