Or taking your new pride and joy out for the first time in unknown waters (ok it was only the witham but hey) to get caught in a flood and have to leave your pride and joy in the middle of nowhere for a week whilst the flood water goes.

Until you've returned to your mooring too late and your mooting buoy is sitting on the mud - only 6 hours to wait till the wet stuff returns.

or

rowed out to the boat and tied off the dinghy only to see the dinghy heading towards the harbour entrance because I ( yes I ) tied the wrong bit of string !!!!!!

Spent ages cleaning plugs, checking fuel, testing HT leads to find that the safety cut out cable in in your pocket!

On one MBM cruise having removed ropes from the props of two boats earlier in the cruise, my husband reversed onto our berth at Fecamp only to wrap a mooring rope around his own props /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

He did get a round of applause /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Yip, did something similar except we decided to anchor in a bay called "disused cables" /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Thankfully the winch is powerful enough to haul the cable (about 50mm dia) to the surface to allow me to get a rope underneath /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Lesson learned - check the chart before dropping the hook /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Until you have left your boat storm bound, bought a peak rate flight home only to find it cant fly due to the same pigging storm , I should have thought about that before I booked really /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Until you've parked car on slipway, launched boat, messed with boat, then noticed tide has come in, now roughly level with car's speedo. (Was my mother's car, a Renault 4, so I probably did society a favour)

Until you've dived (to sort out anchor), surfaced, climbing back into slippery tender, and decide to remove bottle and stab jacket while weight belt still attached, doh

You have had to leave your new boat on the putty in Chi Harbour having gone to rescue someone else.

You have tried to reverse out with the bow line still attached and thanked Providence that its breaking strain was higher than that applied by full power.

Ah yes, a fellow forumite anchored in a little area off the Isle of Widget in a bay called Submarine Cables, but we had to cut his anchor chain on that occasion.

Don't forget,

You're Not a Real Boater until you've launched the boat with the bung still in your pocket. Then reversed the trailer further out as the boat wasn't floating off properly.

You're Not a Real Boater until you've set off from another forumite's boat at 3am in the tender in Newtown Creek, only to realise you didn't leave any lights on and you can't find your own boat.
