What are you planning to do this winter ref sailing?

We stayed in last year, so only had a long weekend with Morgana out of the water to clean and polish her, plus scrape her bum clean...

So this year, we're lifting out after the new year for probably Jan and Feb so that we take our time a bit more, and do a thorough job....

What are you doing?

well,im planing to beef up my keel, probably antifoul the hull, add a new lazzarette and probably add two new fuel tanks.

If i can beef the keel up and increase my fuel capacity to 30 gallons,i intend to do OOstend.

Well i've only owned the latest addition to the Nick family for less than a month so, other than moving it's mooring over Winter, i'm staying in.

May bring her out for a couple of weeks next year (somewhere cheap to haul) to do some seacock maintenance and hull tinkering. (or visa versa. :) )

We're 230 miles away now and Kioni is on a mooring so usually she comes out. I have some more planned work to do on her but... I'm tempted to move her to a marina this year and leave her in to be honest. Seriously thinking about Tollesbury, which we love. Comments welcomed from locals.

my problem with fuel capacity is more to do with finding the stuff than range, petrol can be a pain, with diesel just about every port sells the stuff. On my recent jolly up the coast, the winds were so light that i had to motorsail,by the time i had left Peterborough,i had to use the engine at its full capacity to get through the dog and doub, then i added an extra 12nm under motor,i eventually had used about 40 liters by the time i got to hedon on the Humber. It was a long walk to the nearest fuel station.

On a frugal setting i get about 1 hour to 1.5 liters at 1500rpm.I probably cover the ground at 3nm per hour,at 12 knots i get through fuel like its going out of fashon.

The keel is a different matter

Well, we've decided to sell Chellers and return to a monohull (possibly in partnership with my uncle) so a monster cleaning & polishing session is on the cards! Once the inside is done we'll probably haul out and do the outside.
After that, a bit of daydreaming about what boat #3 will be....:)

We are going up to Rochford on the 30th December, and will haul out on the 2nd or 3rd January.
Then we have a list of about 40 jobs to do, which will catch up with everything as we enter our 5th year of ownership.
Probably the longest job will be the new saloon table, and the modification to various stowages.

So we think that probably 1st week of April is our target to go back in.

Sail until the new year, a couple of weeks out of the water in January - antifoul and a few small jobs - nothing major this year. Back in to sail through the rest of the winter, when the weather allows.

Coming out this month. Loads of work to do and I haven't really started with a list yet:

Rewire
Paint inside
Build a Gas locker
Fit a sort of hatch garage with instrument pod (still to be designed)
New instruments - depth, log, wind
Treat mast - maybe paint not sure yet
New running rigging
Paint deck with non slip
Polish topsides
Fit furling gear
New sails - well at least I won't have to make them
New spray hood - well if ££ permit

The only fixed bit is relaunch Sat 10 April 2010!!

We'll be in as usual. It will be nice going out for a trip down the river when it's quiet.
The only downside is the ice on the water banging against the hull and waking you up!
Looking at Bastonjocks fuel useage, we reckon on around 7 litres per hour at 1300 rpm = 7 kts.
Good job we can carry 1600 litres!
