Your tender/surfboard/canoe will soon be a ship

I am afraid it was only lately that I realized that PWC, windsurfers and so on were not covered by COLREGS and I must say I was a bit surprised. And certainly if they were out at night they should carry a light.

'Scuse me if this is not news but, reading that article, I noticed:

"...Anyone out on the water would be liable to a random breath test..."

So that'd be exactly like the police aren't allowed to do to car drivers?

Are you sure?

Where I used to work there was a weigh-bridge just before the start of the M56. As we worked shifts, around Christmas we were regularly pulled onto the plot by the Cheshire Babylon and breathalysed, twice in one week one year. (normal cars, just happened that the police ran the weigh-bridge which offered a great place to pull cars off the dual carriageway).

I would often see the other lads who had been on shift with me, in the queue to blow into this please sir, so they were pretty much pulling everyone.

If this was not supposed to happen, the babylon would surely have attempted to make the whole charade less obvious (maybe 6 or 7 volvo pandas and 15 odd plod talking to and breathalysing us.)

this was around midnight, I presume they were there from say 2000 to catch the Christmas doo's.
