As you may have seen in the lastest issue of Motor Boat & Yachting, we are looking for readers/forumites who are keen to shout about the delights of their own cruising grounds in the magazine.

We have just launched a new series called The Perfect Weekend which aims to give visiting boats/crew an idea of how to spend an ideal weekend cruising around your local area (within 15nm max). Nobody can do this better than the people who currently keep their boats there and know every beach, bay, pub and anchorage.

At the moment we have already got Torbay, Salcombe and the West Solent covered but I am actively looking for boat owners to cover other popular cruising destinations around the UK. You will need to have a good quality high resolution digital SLR with which you can take pictures of all the places you intend to feature and an ability to write about them in an engaging manner (see the story one on Poole Harbour in the current issue for an idea of what the end result should look like.)

Let me know on this thread or via a PM if you'd like to have a go and which area you would like to photograph/write about, ideally with a few words and a photo or two demonstrating why it's such a great boating destination. If it sounds promising I will send you a proper brief so that you can take more photographs and do your research over the Summer months. We will pay for any that we publish

Thanks

Hugo

Has this weekend provided any inspiration to write about your local cruising area as per the above? Why not post a few of your pics and suggestions here. If they look promising I'll get in touch about using them in the magazine. Hugo

Hadyn is a madman

Hugo, ignore Hadyn.

North Wales is an awful place for boating and we need to discourage anyone who thinks they should move their boat here.

Channel 16 is now impossible, with anything up to three calls a day on it and it would be terrible if it got worse.

So to summarise. North Wales is not a good cruising ground as can be seen in this photo.

See? It's far too crowded.

It looks so terrible that I have asked Philiz to help out with writing/photographing a Perfect Weekend in North Wales but it looks like you could all do the honours. Are you all based in the same location or could we divide it into smaller areas and ask you to cover a number of different Perfect Weekends around Wales/Anglesey/Isle of Man etc?

Whilst we're on the subject any takers for South Wales, Scotland, East Coast, Ramsgate etc?

Oh dear, you do realise that Liz takes on average 13,786 photographs each and every weekend, winter and summer.

I am parked a few metres from Phil so I will be able to add little to their scintillating report.

Excellent. We only have space for 12-14 photos so even if only one of those 13,786 is any good then we should have enough to use by the end of the Summer!

So does the whole of the forum keep their boats in North Wales or is everyone else being too coy to admit to boating elsewhere? Where are the volunteers to shout about their own liitle corner of paradise in England, Ireland (N&S) and Scotland?

O dear From a raggie / 10,000 ton motor man,
No the North west is not the place to do a jolly in it makes the Solent look like Batersea boating lake, Yep I've been there and dun it for 20 years off and on 1973 to 1999.:D
You have places like the Swivels (Swellies) where the tide runs round in circles at 6 to 7 kns, Bardsey Sound 7 to 8 kns with overfall's, the Skerries another 6 to 7 kns, Liverpool just opposite the Royal Liver Building 6 to 7 kns, also we have tides that go up and down by 30+ odd feet.
Ship canal up to Manchester that doesn't like yachties (True) I wish they did they have very little other traffic nowadays.
Then there is the Irish sea itself most days it will get up to a 4 to 5 quite often a 6 to 8+ is not unknown O and that is waves some 10 to 15 feet.
We have none of your Kevlar go faster sails ours are generally 16oz minimum all the time.
Yer surely thats enough to frighten off any sovenener from the quite pleasantries and gentle tides of the Solent.
They've only got the Aldenery Race and a little bit of a swirl around a few Headland's that are now't to worry about really.
Disclaimer.
All the above is said with tong formerly in Cheek.
Yes it is and can be a bit different in the North West and the Irish Sea but We like it.:)

We are very friendly up here, unlike them southerners, who need a formal introduction before even speaking to each other.

I am Surrey born and bred, but realised that it's just better in Cheshire and N Wales.

If you read the N Wales banter we regularly meet up, or just bump into each other and most of us have intimate knowledge of each other's drinks cabinets. Well, to qualify that, intimate knowledge of Little Ship's drinks cabinet, because, to be honest, I wouldn't let any of those guzzling drunkards anywhere near mine.

Humph. So you did not appreciate M Farters adventurous weekend in Plymouth then.

Theres Nudes On The Beach in Salcolmbe (Might be a bit racey)

Or one about Kwackers making butties in Wales.

No we are not all in the same place, well some times we are mostly all in the same place some times. Other than that we are not.

They couldn't all do it, see they're not all as good with the words like what I am, and Liz's photos are the best ( go on you lot, argue with the last bit, I dare yer )
