OK folks.... new idea....

Please present forth your 2007 boaty related resolution, and i'll retain copies of resolutions until this time next year upon which we will review success or otherwise....... in no doubt a publically humiliating kind of way..... please be grand and ambitious, otherwise it'll be boring not being able to berate people for failing to make their goals.....

To kick it off...

my 2007 boating resolutions are:

To reach the point where SWMBO is confident enough to put the boat in her berth without me at the helm....

To reach the point where my daughter can (has) completed and followed a valid passage plan....

To set off on a holiday to the West Country, and to get past Portland Bill this time.
To get more than 2/3 of the way through the "to do" list before launching.
To enjoy sailing even more than I did last year (tricky, that one, but worth a go).

Part of yours is subjective and can't be judged. That's cheating.

I resolve to spend more time just sitting on the boat rather than being under way all the time. (Once I get the sails up I won't stop. It comes from not having very long periods available)

Not to fret when SWMBO takes the boat away for the day with her chums.

I know she can do it.

I also know she lurks on here. Go for it girl!

Donald

1) I will not spend shedloads of money at boat shows.

2) We will spend a night at anchor this year.

3) I will not spend shedloads of money at boat shows.

4) We will actually manage to get further from home than Burnham-on-Crouch.

5) I will not spend shedloads of money at boat shows.

6) We will use the cruising chute this year.

7) I will not spend...... etc

Well, I'll know. I know what you mean about sitting on the boat, though. I rather like where our mooring is but a lot of the time we just get to the boat and go, never seeing much of the creek. So this year we managed more trips where we got to the boat on Friday evening, ate on board, drank a little (bottle) then set off on the morning tide. Sitting in a narrow creek watching the egrets and other waders wandering up and down the mud banks as the sun sets, listening to the curlews and redhanks call across the marshes defines some of my favourite moments in life, and if I was more organised I'd post a few more pictures at this point, but you'll just have to use your imagination. It's also the best reason I can think of for not having a marina berth, apart from the extra £3k a year, that is /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif .

1 - will get away for a boys' weekend cruise /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
2 - will fit the replacement forehatch I bought as a "bargain" last year /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
3 - will finish applying the mastic around the new galley I promised myself to finish last Christmas /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

To sail to Bantry bay, either with a couple of mates or on my own. There to be joined by my wife and son for our summer holidays.

I would like to get the spinnaker up, but it's not going to happen, as it now lives on top of the wardrobe (big bag, small boat)

Come now John, several of those resolutions are completely unrealistic.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

OK, maybe the cruising chute won't go up... /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Still to do for 2006

1. Fly the kite - looking good

2007 Resolutions

1. Enjoy every minute
2. Not break anything - money's tight at the moment.
3. Build the Mrs & N°1 Child's confidence so that they'd stand watch at night
4. Get N°1 Child to pass Dazed Kipper - she's more than capable
5. Get out even more in 2007 than in 2006

More nights on the boat (30 last season)
Get to Southwold (blown out in July)
Trip to France/Belgium
Overtake Stargazer on the Orwell when I have my cruising chute up but he hasn't yet (us Moody 31 owners are friendly really)
Relax now VP gearbox splines are being done (not a pretty sight)

Do I hear the slap of a gauntlet being thrown down?..... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I will not buy any more project boats or ebay bargains.

I will fix my Windex which has been misaligned since I launched the boat.

I will assist as many people as possible in their spinnaker or cruising chute aspirations. Call 0800-KITEUP for East Coast assistance and bookings. Guapa take note, yours must be bloody enormous.

I will go to Etaples and bring back some French mud on the keel.

I will meet as many Forumites as possible. Therefore I will simultaneously fly both the YBW Burgees that I have /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif One on the crosstrees, the other on the Radar tower halyard.

I will beat my 2006 total of 982 miles, which means less lollygagging in peaceful anchorages, and more shouldering manfully through the Mountainous Seas.

I should resolve the opposite.... I should do more sailing. (comes from being a lazy b*st*rd!).

Get out of bed earlier. Go to bed earlier. Socialise more. Be tidier. Do jobs in good time, rather than dashing at the last minute....... MMM! I see a pattern emerging <g>
