I keep my tender dinghy chained up on the beach near my swing mooring. There are about 20 dinghies there. Many are not used just stored there (dumped).
Anyway a few weeks back a catamaran appeared chained to the railing. About 12ft long f/g these are popular around here and know as Surf Cats.
I thought it was a bit of a risk leaving something like that especially in good condition with blocks attached and mast erected. (And at the start of winter)

Last Sunday the cat was rigged with Jib and main and left in its usual place.
By Tuesday the boat had been knocked over by winds but still left fully rigged. I imagine some owners kids may have rigged it then changed their mind about sailing.
I have no way of tracking down the owner and can only deplore the abuse of a very nice little boat. olewill is perplexed...

I agree. Boat abuse is a henious crime. When I see it I often lament the fact that, once, this was (or should have been) someone's pride and joy.

There should be a Royal Society for The Prevention of Cruelty to Boats /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Surely there is nothing wrong with giving a Mobo a serruptitious whack with a hammer as you walk past?

Doesn't everybody do this?

I mean some boats have to suffer for the good of the many.

After all that work with a chainsaw and fork lift so you could have a fence post oops I mean a taff rail. He has an angle grinder too!

Remember what happened when his boat didn't float on its marks.

A wellwisher.

In fairness by the time I posted this the boat had been rescued but 3 days fully rigged was a bit like abuse to me.
Maybe I am a romantic but to me a boat really is more than just a collection of material. When you get into rough water and see the bow rise to every wave you start thinking in terms of the boat having a personality. Hence deserves some care. olewill
