Fairline Corniche.
Watched a Volvo Penta 6 cylinder engine have the No 1 piston complete with con road , with engine still in boat..
Mechanic erected a scaffold support system around engine. Reverse gear removed then engne raised raised sufficiently to be able to easily work underneath.
All the cooling bits and pieces stripped off and then head and sump removed.

Like the 'can do' attitude on display there. Sounds like my kind of mechanic.
Have taken his phone No and had good chat, feasible on most boats and engines, apparently .
He has somebody who erects the perfectly ordinary cut to size construction site scaffolding around the engine.
Pressure pads to spread load etc.
Took about a day to lift and dismantle engine.
Boat recently purchased with the known engine problem taken into account.
A small fortune saved, not putting boat ashore and completely removing engine via Hi Ab and patio doors etc.
All done on your home mooring and in the water.
No trying to arrange lift etc and getting boat there.
The skippers main effort was sitting watching the work being carried out and making a brew or two.

We had a company do this to a generator on a boat I used to work on (a 60kW generator, I think the engine was around 400hp). Scaffolding around, lifted up with a chain lift then dropped the pistons out the bottom with the oil pan removed.

It was really impressive and surprisingly quick too.

Agree with what's been said. Hopefully his knowledge and engineer attention to detail, matches his 'can-do' attitude. If so he'll be a very useful contact to have.

Down yesterday and being nosy wandered up to boat.
Engine block is now hanging vertically in its cradle.
Parts being ordered, at least the job is not clocking up days on the hard charges.
Will try to get some pix.

Hold up is finding a piston and liner.
41B.
£1900 from the usual suspects.
Suggestions welcome.
Coastal Rides already contacted.

surely cannot change liner like that? will at least have to remove cylhead and then press new one in...
Decent approach assuming block/cylhead surface not warped due to excessive temps. Hope block is steel

Literally everything is off.
Bare block is hanging vertically in its frame with head/sump/ancillaries all off and the offending piston/liner removed.
Skipper just trying to locate a replacement new piston and liner.

Since been informed that this , although not common, is not unknown for the 41 series , allegedly due to No1 being last in the que for oil from the pump. ????

Hey OG. This lot quoted me 250 quid for a liner and piston. Phone number is 07534 587227. Might be worth a call? I have no affiliation, just asked of a few Facebook groups I am on.

Sounds a bit cheap!

Things have moved on since the daguerreotype. Just saying.
Artists impression on its way.

No1 ? Piston and liner now located.
Seem to recall 41B was higher compression, cylinder head was reworked along with piston crown modified for better combustion more efficent gas flow ?

Impressed .....and Is that genuine Volvo Penta artificial grass we are looking at or some knock off Chinese copy.
Think we need to know ?

Do you know how much the piston and liner cost in the end?
