Is it me or are all the real great standards from, heavy rock to disco to guitar etc etc. only played by 60's 70's 80's musicians???

Every thing from Queen, Santana, Hendricks, Moody Blues, Meatloaf, Supertramp, Cream, The Police, even Leonard Cohen & Neil Diamond...ohhh & loads more.

Where's the 90' & 00 equivilent? /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

how true, when they play all the golden older or that stuff on the radio, its all the stuff I used to disco to, Yes I mean disco, /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif not club etc. the music was inspiring and even my teenagers know the hits from that time. and its not just from me playing it, it was good music, I listen to the stuff my son likes , well no choice when its blasting around the house when he is home!!!! and its all this rap stuff that sounds like someone saying it as they can;t sing with the loud back ground music so you can't hear what they are saying anyway.
God I sound like a mum, /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif: complaining about the music, but I like most music but even I struggle with some of the modern stuff. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

To be fair, there is a massive underground industry now, you just wont hear it on mainstream radio.

Rachmaninov Piano Concertos
Bach Brandenburg Concertos
Abbess Hildegard of Bingen -Feather on the Breath of God - the entire album
Lizzie West - Chariots Rise
Nina Simone - Just about anything
Billie Holliday - just about anything
Van Morrison - Brown Eyed Girl
Jane Sibury - Music for the Christmas Season
Cat Stevens - The First cut is the deepest, and Lady D'arbanville
Steeleye Span - Gaudette
Clash - London Calling
Velvet Underground and Nico - Sunday Morning
Eva Cassidy - Fields of Gold

I've put my entire collection onto Windows Media Player, and rated all of them.

It's quite amazing what this throws up - music I thought I liked was ranked only 4 or even 3 star. This was the highlights of the 5 star.

When you actually go through a process like this, you start to realise what your music selection is really like, and I've listened to every single one in doing the rankings. Suspect it might change depending on night of week, and mood, when you do the selections, but overall, it's pretty good

You can also select by year of release, so I can see that Lizzie West, Eva Cassidy etc are in the past few years.

Your jokin a'int ya

quote from the site on a new single......." NP: Perhaps more influential now than ever the Manchester band return with another typical New Order moment. Shockingly bad lyrics delivered in Bernard Summner’s inimitable style fail to spoil this song as a quintessentially ........" load a crap!

Followed your link to the xfm web site, but then what? Lots of groups I've never heard of, so I tried the live radio show. After 5 mins of adverts, I got the usual rap crap that has deterred me from listening to any recent music for the last 10 years or so.

I'm sure it is there, but I can't find it! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
