Picked up a rumour this morning that credit card swipe machines are to be installed at several Thames locks - likely to be chosen from those between Teddington and Henley which includes Windsor - as a trial prior to rolling them out at all locks downstream of Oxford in time for the 2012 Olympics.
The EeYay-YouPay system will ensure that sufficient income to cover planned maintenance is generated on an annual basis by dynamic revenue collection and control software developed for the Differential Expenditure For River Access (DEFRA) initiative.
Full licence holders will get a specially designed Boat Operations-Locks (BoLocks) card for their personal use but casual users will need to use a credit or debit card to transit locks.
