You all seem to have loads to spend on boats but....

Missed your post first time around but have a look for the Sealine 195 Excellent boats, getting a tad old now but you might find one in excellent condition. We had one for 5 years, towed it all over the Med when the kids were little. Good seakeeping and great family boat and more modern looking than the Shetland range. Usually equipt with a 4.3 litre inboard petrol.

I was pretty much ignored last time I mentioned looking for a safe family estuary cruiser for around 5- 6000 pounds but one helpful person put me onto the Shetland boats. The 570 and the Family four + 2 seem to fit the bill and look like very good value. Would anyone recommend anything else in this ballpark or could suggest a more suitable "average wage" kind of forum where people might have experience of boating in this bracket.

many thanks

I think my bulter used to have a Shetland once upon a time, I'll ask him when he brings in tea and tiffin. ;)

Another option is the Hardy Pilot - old fashioned looking but v. safe layout for small kids.

Good call, if you can get one for the money. Remember, he's looking to do aspot of fishing too, so the Sealine/Fletcher style boats won't really suit that well.

Yes I agree with that.
Perhaps the more rare model
The Hardy Fishing 20
Same hull more cockpit.

Easier to go forward too.
Than a Sports cuddy type vessel.

Not neccessarily a fair observation, or in all cases. Many folk who own boats strive quite hard to afford and run them, often heavily financed, and quite a drain to run, but such folk have a passion for their hobby. This goes for 16ft as much as 50ft vessels. Sure there are some expensive boats that are never used, but that's not typical. I'd guess most moboers here on the forum don't have loads to spend on boats but find ways to finance their passion and often make sacrifices to run their boats.

As already said by others, I'd guess you didn't get a great response first time around by accident, timing, etc, rather than being ignored. Most folk seem helpful and friendly as demonstrated by responses so far. :) Hope you find a suitable boat.
